keep looking for jobs, guy. some companies, mostly the forward-thinking ones, dont really care about anything like that, at least in my interview experiences. the more old-fashioned ones do. ironically the ones that asked for the most references were dingy, shady looking offices i knew i didnt want to work at anyway. but maybe you're in a place that doesnt have many choices (im in nyc)

I've never been asked for a reference. I have them, but they've never been needed.

Although I also carry around a binder filled with certifications and commendations so that probably helps.

Tell my interviewers that my old company has new management and we had a disagreement, which is part of the reason I was fired.

I was hired on the spot after I showed them my portfolio and work history. I only have 1 reference from the previous place I worked because I didnt have any phone numbers saved when they took the work phone... sadly the new place was unorganized as fuck... so I went out looking for another job a few days after getting the 1st one... once again hired on the spot.
