>somehow passed the CPA exam
>now have Bachelors in Accounting and CPA
>never had an Accounting job
>still feel like I have no fucking clue about anything Accounting related

Is this normal? I hardly even know how to do taxes and somehow I'm a CPA now.
>>
can't you just use turbotax?
>>
>>1200399
But if I'm a CPA, employers are going to expect me to know this shit. That's my point, I'm a CPA and I feel like I'm still clueless about accounting. I'm not totally familiar with how banking works, stocks, bonds, etc. I just studied and did okay for standardized tests but I have no real world knowledge to draw from.
>>
>>1200392
Well you know everything except application, that's what job training is for. Start applying retard, you're about to make shitloads

Tax accounting is not standard CPA work, yo. Tax accounting is basically "put this adjusted figure in this box according to the assets/liabilities/income you listed in schedule X/A/whatever, then go through this worksheet to determine your tax liability."

It's a somewhat insulated field that isn't directly driven by management or GAAP principles; I'm not a CPA, but my understanding is that CPA is more or less for investor and management insight, and additional training is needed if you want to be a tax specialist.

Another confounding idea is that every country has its own tax structure, so it's not like you're going to be able to do your company's tax in Germany if your specialty is taxes in the US (obviously, some countries are more similar than others, so maybe something like Canadian taxes would be workable/doable for a tax specialist in the US).

This is just what I've gleaned from my mother, who has been a corporate tax specialist for like 30+ years, and has no CPA.
>>
Google impostors syndrome op
>>
Yeah this is why I dropped out of school when I was studying accounting. Too much certification when really the business boils down to experience like any other. Getting educated/certified before you've made experience and connections seems like putting the cart before the horse to me.
>>
>>1200564
It's fucking bullshit, there are countless job offers out there requiring 1-3 years experience but hardly any entry level jobs, and if there are entry level jobs, they pay less than stocking shelves at Costco.

Yet somehow 18-24 years ago my older brothers graduated HS and got jobs in accounting and became independent. What the fuck?
>>
>>1200567
I absolutely aced an interview with a good employer, they told me they wanted to hire me but couldn't because I wasn't a good enough little goy and wasn't involved in the accounting club or extracurriculars. That's when I said fuck it, I need a field that cares about the actual work and not the countless little hoops you have to jump through to even begin working. I plan on going into a trade after NEETing it up for a little bit.
>>
>>1200573
I guess I should consider killing myself then, sounds like it'll be impossible to find a decent 9-5 office job plugging in numbers in SAP with a simple BS in Accounting. That's all I want, a mediocre job while I practice on my graphic design shit on the side.
>>
>>1200459
suicide is always an option
>>
>>1200567
Your brothers have their own firms and won't get you a job? How do you grow up in a family dominated by accountants and not have any connections willing to take a shot on a fresh out of college CPA?

I know what you're saying because I suffered the same thing for years making barely above minimum wage with a bachelor's in accounting but it sounds like you started with a loaded deck.
>>
>>1200675
they don't own firms, they just work for bigger companies. and their companies arent hiring atm
>>
Not all accountants do tax.

As long as you know your basic accounting rules you can do most jobs
>>
>>1200567
You know you can get basic AR jobs and shit that pay 15-20 an hour without a CPA while you're in school, it's what I did
>>
>>1200564
This, you're better off finding an accountant and begging him to mentor/train you. People want experience because it's an important job.

Shit, finance is the same way. You better intern somewhere with a recognizable name or most places won't consider you.

Why the fuck did you sit for all four CPA exams without being in an accounting position already? That's fucking retarded.
>>
>>1200748
They pressure you in school to get the CPA before you even get a job nowadays
>>
>>1200392

Congratulations on passing the CPA.

But if you feel you know nothing, don't feel too bad. It turns out there are many CPAs out there who are not only very good accountants, they're also remarkably stupid people.

Since you've passed your CPA, though, it shouldn't be too difficult for you to find work at one of the big accounting firms, if that is your goal.

Your lack of knowledge about stocks, bonds, banking, etc. is not surprising as that is not the purview of accountants so much as financiers and, to a lesser extent, economists.
>>
>>1200749
>letting people pressure you

You're an omega tier cuck
>>
I think it's because courses teach half gen eds, and the actual /biz/ shit is garbage like marketing, babby economics, etc. Even the accounting classes are tripe. Academic bullshit with no real world applicability.

Everything of value I've taught myself. Uni is just bullshit. All the job listings seem to require a degree, so I went... Only classes I learned shit in were finance, tax, and law. Thems some hard classes man.

But it's like 90% of our classes are irrelevant and they cram the accounting into like 8 courses.
>>
>>1200658
Wow such great advice. I hope they lower your 401k match.
>>
Loads of CPAs do community college courses to get real life training when they're doing their attestation hours. It's not a bad gig. Get real world experience (if the class is done right), then you join a small time CPA firm if you weren't already recruited to the B4.
>>
>>1200464
Right there with ya. Bs in cs. Write db software. No fucking clue what a secondary key is. Op, its totally natural.

I don't think anybody knows much about accounting. Just talk like you know what your doing cos' Somehow YOU DO... if you've passed the exams. Bachelors degree's don't mean shit as far as Im concerned.( Except the noble trades etc)
>>
>>1200392
this is fucking halarious
>>
accountant at a big4 here

you don't need to know anything as you're trained on the job. we hire interns who haven't taken any accounting courses
>>
Higher education is a joke anyway. It is essentialy an IQ test for your future employers. I've never used my education for anything, always learned what I need to know at the workplace. Used to be engineers didn't go to college. Obviously there are exceptions to what I'm talking about, some things I'm sure you are better off learning at school.
>>
I'm pretty much ACA qualified at a Big 4 firm (one exam to go) and I know fuck all.
>>
>>1203974
Yet I didn't get hired even though the entire accounting/financial econ department gave me recommendations because I only had a 2.4 GPA...
>>
>>1204895
>because I only had a 2.4 GPA.
2.4 is pretty low dude

in Canada, you need a minimum 3.0 to be able to write the accounting exams
>>
>>1204895
Yea, low GPA's get fucked. Sorry, you should have tried harder. I wish I had too. I have a 3.4 overall and I'm afraid honeslty
>>
>>1203993
>Used to be engineers didn't go to college.
We also didn't used to have half the technology we do today one decade ago

Stop talking out of your ass
>>
>>1204895
When people say GPA's don't matter they mean as long as you have a 3.0+. Holy shit man that's like a D average no wonder you can't get a job. I could have slept through my accounting major and still pulled a C. (I couldn't find a good job even with a good GPA though so don't let it bother you much.)
>>
>>1200712
Lmao
>>
> somehow pass fiance and economics
> now I run the federal reserve
> still dont even know how a free market works

> kill me
>>
>>1205148

That's right, but a lot of that technology actually makes the job easier and more streamlined. Taking a chance on someone untrained without formal training however is not only often illegal but really stupid in a situation where there are more workers than jobs anyway. Should engineers go to universities? Fuck if I know, I'm not an engineer. But I sure as hell know the current need for higher education is not a result of a genuine need within the market, but something that comes out of the government. Where I live you can't even get a job as a cashier without high school in many cases. That's insanity.

I'm on track for a phd, I want to actually get a job doing research, but the majority of the people I have studied with have no business being in a university. They just care about partying and wasting huge sums of their own and the taxpayers money. It's really tragic that we live in a society that gives people incentives to make such terrible decisions. Lot of folks come out of 10th grade and they can't even read and write properly! And somehow free community college is going to help them? Sure, it might help them pretty up their applications, but it's a net loss for the economy, and that means more of those people are going to end up without jobs as taxes increase.
>>
>>1200392
dont worry. I work at a Chinese food resturaunt and I dont even know what a soysauce packet is. I just throw 10 fortune cookies in each bag and smile. You'll make it bro

I'm a clever bitch, I am.

If you live in washington my mom could possibly hire you as an intern, she has her own firm.

Chemical engineer here, I know jack shit about planning a chemical plant. I could cook up some sweet meth in a flask, but large scale planning fucking eludes me.
>>
>>1208178
I've been lied to this whole time. I knew you could take it but you couldn't get the actual certification unless you have 150+ credits.
