im the [email protected] alaska forex trader guy. im not op im the guy who makes techno plays dota and forex trades all day. as for the guy asking about his account. im tradeing 3000$ for you. so far in the past 2 weeks ive made you 150$ roughly. as i said expect 10% compound interest a month on average if you can see i set some small trades on aud/jpy and i have some sell limits that will trigger at certain points so i can take advantage of selling from a higher price. i kept i decent margin level to ensure that the position wont close. this could drop today. next week or in a few months. i might choose to close the .3 sell order at a specific time but it would only be when i want to minimize a loss or if i think theres a good chance to make profit from a alternate position. i can trade anywhere from a hour to a day to a month. im very adaptable to my positions and i am confident you will either lose part of the 150$ ive already made you! but only if i choose to enter a new position.

Add in the spread (or commission fees depending on broker). What are your chances now? I'm an American and work a 9-6, but would like to trade ForEx without quitting my job. This is still possible, right? I'd just have to trade Yen or Euro or something where it is a typical market hour in that country during my nighttime?

I hear that when you start trading Forex it's best to just stick to one currency until you know what you're doing, like USD/Yen and shit.

Any advice? I'd like to give this a shot with a few thousand after work, maybe two or three hours a day. Is this worthwhile or is more of a time commitment required?

It's very capital intensive, and there are a lot of things going on that affect currency spreads. In fact, it's generally acknowledged as pretty "up there" in difficulty-to-understand across all departments in BB banking.

You build a basket to hedge against fluctuations. Currencies don't produce income. If you think you can realize currency appreciation, then you need to look at the fundamentals like interest rate flows. Still, though, build your basket to hedge against fluctuations. when the swiss national bank unpegged the chf, the euro exchange rate fell ~40% directly, meaning that no matter what stop loss you used you lost 40% (without levarage), as there were no buyers inbetween
if you used a 5-1 levarage you lost 200% so you zeroed your account and ended up owing an additional 100% of your money before getting the margin call
if you used the US max of 50-1, you lost 2000%, so you lost all your money and ended up owing an another 19 times the ammount
now consider the people using 100-1 or even 500-1 leverage which wasn't even unusual as the chf/eur exchange rate had extreme low volatility and was considered low risk, so you needed extreme leverage to make decent profits
if you were lucky, your broker had to swallow the losses, but it depended on the terms of your aggreement
