Why is the import tax in the UK so high?

I literally can't import anything unless it takes 80% of my profit away

I don't know, they tax the shit out of everything there.
I hear no one there really trades stock, as there's some stupid Bernie Sanders tax associated with it. So everyone trades CFD's, which are like fake stock, to get around the tax.
>>
>>1143637
what, lol
>>
>>1143827
CFDs here is basically trading the underlying asset without ever taking any form of ownership of the asset. It's tax-free as it's considered gambling. However, trade the real asset and you're subject to numerous taxes which destroys profit margins
>>

>taxes which destroys profit margins
And that senile old fuck from Vermont wants to enact the same shit here.
Except he wants to fucking double it.
>>
Because the EU is protectionist as fuck. Socialism to placate the masses means taxes and tariffs to protect domestic monopolies and oligopolies.

Basically Micky from down at the pub needs his dole and Lord Inbred XIV needs to protect his market.
>>
Countries with tariffs fear their domestic businesses are too weak. They're probably right.
>>
>>1144191
>The US doesn't impose tariffs and otherwise massively subsidise domestic industries

lmao

I demo traded with CFD's a while back and will do again in the future as I learn more but that was before I got into options. Can you trade options on CFD's?
>>
>>1144239

Hmm, it seems I need to use covered warrants and turbos over here. I just don't think they offer the same level of functionality and strategic flexibility as proper options.
>>
>>1144239
>CFD's
Is that shit even regulated?
I heard some crazy shit about the "brokerages" that handle it robbing people blind (ignoring orders, incorrect price tracking, taking positions opposite yours, etc.).
>>
>>1143907
kek. Kek'd badly
>>
>>1142936
Your post says 'import tax', but your picture says 'fuel duty'. Make up your mind.

Literally fuck off.

I'm still learning about this stuff too but I don't believe they're legal to use in the US.

On further investigation I did manage to find brokers on this side of the pond that offer options trading. I'm not ready yet but it's good to know. I don't understand why so many still don't offer it though.

>I don't believe they're legal to use in the US
Oh, I meant how are they regulated in the UK.
Pretty sure they're illegal here.
>>
>>1144478

Yeah I've no idea how they're regulated, I've not looked into it enough. I'm still pretty new to investing. I did hear someone around these parts say similar things though so I'm wary of them too. There are also adverts here that mention "don't trade against your broker" blah blah, "we work with you and hedge against your trades" which does seem to imply that sort of stuff does go on. Not sure how your broker hedging their clients trades quite works out either though.

Some of it has to do with demand. You need a relatively robust market for whatever you're trying to set up options for, otherwise they can't be priced accurately.
Take non-public company stock. It's barely traded, so the options market for it is practically nonexistent.

UK has the highest diesel prices in the world
Not surprising given how much it takes to even import it

Is there any legal way of importing it without having to pay that ridiculous price?
