Bitcoin was successful because it had something to offer the world of tech and because it gave the opportunity to a lot of "investors" to make some money in a very speculative way.

The other cryptos sometimes do better than prophets of doom predict, because they still offer the chance for "investors" to make highly speculative investments.

Eth provides a contribution to tech that is, literally, a multi-market innovation. They actually have something that people, both individuals and companies, can use. Also, just like bitcoin, behind this innovation is a highly speculative investment venture for "investors" to play around in.

Conservative cryptonerds (are there any?) make the claim that it is going to spike to between 10 - 20 USD after the Homestead release, and make it to 80 by the end of the year. If nothing big happens with the project by later this year, you can get out having made a nice profit. If something does happen, Eth has the potential to be the most bullish crypto.

I'm not pouring all of my money into Eth, for sure. Eggs and baskets and stuff like that. But, there is some money to be made here, and some fun to be had. So drop enough money on Eth to where you can have a happy little gamble but not enough to where you're sweating beads looking at the charts.

People didn't buy BTC early because by the time they heard of it, it already had its first crash from 50 down to 10, and even 10 seemed too much for what essentially was a piece of distributed software to people. Its gonna be exactly the same situation with Ethereum, for the past month /biz was saying buy at $2,$3,$4. Once its gonna reach $10, the psychological barrier for someone to become an early adopter is just too much. Fgts will miss the greatest train of 2016, just like they missed 2013.
