How valuable is coop experience? I'm probably looking to work in big 4 or big oil when I graduate.

I'm a third year accounting student at a school that doesn't offer coop. I got a summer internship at an oil company in my freshman year. Now I am looking at an 8 month (may to december) offer working in the controller department. This will delay my graduation by one semester.

Is working work delaying my graduation? My parents really hate the idea but I'm going to be getting paid $27 an hour. Since I live in Canada, I'll be able to graduate debt free and have a solid savings.

it's work experience , which is pivotal

That's not really a coop, it's just an extra internship. It's kinda weird that it would be senior year though. I wouldn't do it unless it makes you a significantly stronger candidate for full time.

Whats the difference between this and coop? Other than I dont get credits and the company probably doesnt get as much free money lol

And it's not really in my senior year, its between my junior and senior year. I'm pretty sure it was only open to third year students because of the stuff I'll be doing.

And yes, if I do this placement and want to work full time for the company they take 1 year off their new grad program and I get my full salary one year sooner (basically a higher starting salary)
>>
Also, it will make my resume look pretty good if it shows that I'm constantly growing with the company and now moving around imo
>>
I would take it, looks way better than a 4 year degree with no work experience at all

It pays well and you look good on your future employers that you're willing to move up

As long as you graduate, then do it up, lots of people don't get that opportunity to get experience and paid well
