I'm wanting to start up a non-profit, but during my research I'm coming to discover that the United States government not only wants all organizations to be incorporated, but it also seems that they demand they all have boards of directors who will eventually have the ability to take over the organization and oust its own founder. How can I avoid this?
This thread is disgusting. You only deal with that shit once you have yuge operation. Now get to work.

Why is this thread disgusting? I don't plan on the organization staying small. But I'll be damned if I allow a group of incompetent oligarchs to steal my organization from me.

You're too low energy for me. Oligarchs? This isn't CHINA. Oligarchs are going to steal the money they have to give away? Any money they will receive will be peanuts anyway. Are you worried about peanuts? Are you a farmer? Mexican, maybe? Go back to your country, rapist.

You're fired.

OP, this happened to me. I started a nonprofit and had my ass booted out by the board. I would recommend setting up safeguards that would prevent this type of thing from happening.
Why not only invite people you trust to be on the board?

These rules are the cost of seeking favorable tax treatment and deductibility of contributions.
