That little life of mine ended two years ago when I found my wife hanging in our old house's parlor. Two years ago was the last time I saw my wife, that is, until three days prior.

I had just come home from my father in law's wake and was sitting on my bed in the dark getting ready to fall asleep when I heard the other side squeak, as if someone had sat down behind me. Given that I live alone now and have no pets I felt a chill run up my spine. Surely it was my imagination. An old spring losing it place. Some fabric possibly becoming undone letting off some pressure. I turn to confirm my doubts and in the moonlight I could see the outline of her body. She was sitting at the edge of my bed staring back at me. My heart stopped for a second as dread filled my mind. I knew it had to be in my head. The person in front of me was just an illusion created from my weary mind and stressful life but it was hard to look away even though I was fully aware of how impossible it was. She didn’t look happy but she didn't look particularly sad either. Either way this was my wife with her auburn hair down passed her shoulders and high cheeks. I swallowed slowly and looked back at the far wall. She couldn't be there no it was just my mind playing tricks on me because of the wake. I peered over my shoulder to see if she was gone and nothing remained. Laying down to sleep ended up being near impossible and I stayed awake unable to calm down for hours. I don't remember falling asleep but when I awoke, and the sun drifted in, I knew that she was gone.

Today was the funeral and I had no reason to avoid it. The man was my dead wife's father after all. As I drove to the church the road seemed to bend and sway in ways I never remembered. I must have not gotten enough sleep. Cars moved around me as if in a dream, slowly veering to and from me. Then I saw her again. I could feel the color run from my face. In the car to my left along in the passenger seat she sat staring straight at me but this time looking distressed as the car took her further away . As her car went ahead of me things felt normal again. The road was unchanging and the cars moved along as they should.

The funeral went as usual. People crying and other talking about what a great guy he was but it was hard trying not to think about her. The stress of what I saw was pushing harder and harder on me and it was affecting my mood. As the mass was ending and the casket was being brought out I took my leave. I had no intention of attending the after party and probably would have been unable to enjoy any of it in my current state of mind. The drive home was uneventful.

I used to work as a night shift security guard in college. could read and do homework most of the night. the building used to be a hospital, and the housing for hospital staff had been turned into office space. after the janitors left, I had to check those buildings to make sure they were locked. if a door was unlocked, I had to go through the buliding and make sure nothing was missing or disturbed (mostly quiet neighborhood near downtown, had to make sure no one had broken in and stolen anything). whenever I went through the top floor, the trapdoors in the ceilling would rattle as a walked beneath, as if something on the other side was trying to open it from the attic. there were deadbolts on my side of the trapdoors. once I went into a room, and saw the deadbolt was unlocked. I left the building, locked the door behind me, and after that I would just lock the door to that building without checking if a door was unlocked

I like stories of someone taking a picture, and then seeing something spooky when they look at the pic later (something that wasn't there or no one saw when the pic was taken). this is supposed to be one of those pics. it was a pic of a person next to a ghost, but there was no piano in the background when it was taken

my grandmother was camping with her family when she was a kid. one night, she had a dream of a ghost rising up from the bushes at the base of a nearby big tree. she told her parents in the morning, and they checked and found a human skeleton buried in a shallow grave

when I was in college (grad student now) i rented an old house with some friends. rent was cheap, the previous tenants had broken their lease and moved out suddenly, they left no forwarding info for the landlord. they left all their furniture, including a full length mirror in room. i moved the mirror to the basement after a few days, it always seemed like there was something in the mirror that wasn't a reflection from in the room. fast forward a few weeks, i'm making lunch in the kitchen, home alone. i hear a crash from the basement, check it out and the mirror has shattered and sent shards of glass across the basement. it looks like it had been hit from the back by a sledgehammer, but it had been propped against the concrete wall. when roommates got home, we compared notes and had all had spooky experiences when home alone
