OP it really depends what the input device is, whether there is a lock out after wrong guesses, or if the data is destroyed after incorrect guesses. For example, if it's a web page, then you can automate a script to try all of the attempts, but it'll be logged on the server. If it's a door, then there's no quick way to figure it out. If it's a phone, then you have to watch out for lock out times.
