he can afford to pull whatever he wants out of their ass unless they have definite proof he raped the kid. a settlement from him means they had hard evidence, and he knew he would lose the case. so it made more economic sense to not waste a lot of money on a court case he would lose, but instead pay a smaller sum as reparations.

and for the rape victims, it makes sense if they would be ruined by running the case all the way, so they'd be better off by getting money for psychiatric treatment for the kid, and paying their lawyer etc. they could win the case, but might ruin themselves in the process, and might not get all that much out of it. so accepting trump's settlement makes sense for them as well.
