4 had a lot of potential but I just feel like it fell short in so many ways. the perk system, for one, I feel was a mistake. I miss the skills from previous games. Having skills made for a much more customizable RPG experience. With just perks, I feel like there are only a few different ways your character can turn out. And fallout 4 completely ruined dialogue/story. Your character's charisma had almost zero bearing on how quests turned out, and all the dialogue options were poorly presented and misleading. Not to mention how there really was no choice in the story, it was all railroaded from the get go without any options of playing multiple factions against each other the way I could in new vegas. The upgrade system for guns and armor WAS pretty nice, I have to say, but I still feel like it didn't do much to CUSTOMIZE a gun. It was just a series of 'add better part'. Had stock, now have better stock. Had sights, now have better sights. Furthermore the settlement crafting system was novel but ultimately pointless besides defensive capabilities. And even then it only paid to bother if you felt like actually helping the cocksucking minutemen and they're endless quests. Otherwise the crafting system just introduced a shit ton of ultimately useless material items and junk into the game, inundating an already crowded inventory with more weight and questions about whether or not you should drop object #857 because you haven't seen this one yet and it might be useful (?).

The shooting was tight tho.

I only beat the game once and only spent around 18 hours in game doing shit. But I thoroughly enjoyed what I played. So much so that I bought the game and currently doing a new playthrough.

NV had better story, but felt almost more restraining. The faction system made it hard for me to feel all that free. In 3, I could more or less do what I want and kill who I want, which is why I replay it more. And despite the ugly, boring, and at times annoying to navigate map, it felt like you would stumble on more action than the larger NV map.

For real though, fallout 2 is the best. You're drinking heresy Kool aid if you believe anything after it can even compare, or bear the same title.
