Anon, there's this progression of chords (I-V-VIm-IV) like C-G-AM-F or D-A-Bm-G which has been used in many songs and very easy to start with. Try searching for Axis of Awesome 4 chords and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. I've taught guitar to some people and I usually start out with this progressions that give you both strength and agility and makes it fun since you're already playing some tunes. Good luck

Pick up a classical and learn flamenco. Fuck anyone who can't appreciate it

What I teach people is technique. Use G C and D. Strum down. Then palm mute. Then cascade down and up. Then finger pick. Then string skip. Then add hammer on and pull off. You'll have half a dozen sounds from the same three chords. It really gives you a good foundation to grow off of and it helps beginning players who only know a few chords by giving the options to play around their comfort zone.
