Is IT really as good as people are saying it is? The other thing is, I like to watch a movie review before I watch a movie because I'm often lost in a movie without knowing what's happening or why, so would watching a review ruin the movie?
>>
Personally I found IT to be pretty shit. 5/10 max.
I expected it to be a cop out with a load of jump scares, but they couldn't even do the jump scares properly, the effects were awful and you could clearly see just how fake any 'scary monster' was. Tbh it was a comedy for me, but not even funny at that. Don't waste your time on it.
>>
>>744906458
Oh, they also broke the movie into 2 parts. Stay tuned for part 2.
Fucking pricks just milking it because nostalgia.
>>
>>744905385
Oh fuck man you have to go see it. it's the best movie ever. It is scary as fuck man. there is a scary ass clown killng kids. Spooky as fuck. Best psychological thriller sent Ernest goes to camp.
Idk I haven't seen it.
>>
My gf drug me to this last night. Said it was supposed to be the scariest movie of the year. Neither her nor I had a shred of emotion the entire movie aside from laughter. The clown was humorous. The horror tropes where so overused and predictable. The characters as dumb as a sack of rocks. I thought it was all quite bland and dragging it on for 2 hours and 15 min was the biggest joke. Just two hours of dumb, predictable characters running from shitty typical "shit that scares you most" horror moments with a clown that only makes it seem like a bad satire while making you angry at how stupid the producers and writers must think the general audience was. The "part one" bs only made the audience laugh in my theater.
>>
>>744906579
Probably hard to fit a 1200 page book into one movie, even though the book is repetitive as fuck.

This new movie in my opinion did a pretty good job at backstabbing the shit out of the original. It's sick, twisted, and not to mention Pennywise doesn't even have as much of a personality as in the original. It was more of a shitty horror film rather than horror and comedy, what IT is supposed to be.
>>
>>744905385
The movie is trash. It sounds and looks like he has Autism. Im pretty sure he does have Autism. He yells and flails his body. Autism isn't scay man.

K fuck all these mopey faggy "critics" I loved it. Not just another horror movie vibe to it. Stephen writes some fucked up shit and I'm glad they were able to put it into the movie and not hold back. Definitely really funny at some points but it's because of the dialogue written by King that does that. I can agree that some of the special effects at some points were a little cheesy but the majority of it I really liked. Fucking movie dweebs always expecting to be pleased by the great movie cock that is called Hollywood. I actually feel really bad that your fucking sarcasm and hidden depression cripple you from just enjoying a fuckig movie for once. Just watch the movie and don't fucking listen to other people. Plenty of good movies that people fucking hate. Plenty of bad movies that people love so fuck it it's all up to one's opinion.

I just saw it last night and it was pretty good. It wasnt very scary but the storyline was good and the graphics were crazy as fuck. Few shock moments, but minus that its more drama actiony type imo. 6.5/10 would watch again.

Actually, I don't care. I hate Stephen King and horror movies in general. I have no investment in this being good, I just think it's interesting. The Gunslinger? Well, that hero has to be black, despite not matching the description of the character in the books, despite invalidating a major story arc involving a black character who is shitty to him for being white and despite outcry from fans of the source material.

Can't depict our precious pet minorities as a child killing monster though. People might think people who aren't white are capable of being shitty human beings too.

Alright to all these retards saying "It wasn't scary at all" "It was more of a comedy", listen here; We're all fucking adults. If something TOTALLY FICTIONAL scares you, you're either a woman, a child, or a faggot. If you can't discern reality from a fucking movie, and find real gripping fear, you're a moron.

That being said, the new IT was the kitties titties. Cinematography was dope, subtleties were dope, it was original, did the book ok justice (no child gangbang though) and most importantly, it wasn't a re-hash of the original TV movie. 7 or 8/10 for sure.

>>
>>744909946
they were going for a horror, but all the implicated gore scenes from the original movie they decided to show explicitly made it pretty cringy and almost humorous
we have to thank to the shitty millennials and their shitty taste for the fact we're flooded with similar crap

crappy movies always existed, but they were mostly b production movies and consciously made that way without any false pretentions

seems that pretty much turned around over the course of last 15-20 years or so

If you're a millenial then this movie is not for you.
I spent two hours listening to the idiots behind me asking each other questions like "Why don't they just track Georgies cell phone to find him?" or "Why don't they just send their drone in that sewer pipe?". In the end it was confusing and frustrating for them. I found it slightly funny and pictured them coming on /b/ and cutting it up but it really wasn't made for millenials.

It's definitely a B, maybe B+. I thought it relied too much on jumpscares, but when it wanted to be atmospheric it oozed that shit. Plus the kids were likable. I just wish they had focused more on Mike like they did in the 90s miniseries; it disappointed me that he was sentenced to background status.

Even with its flaws, it's worth admission. Go see it.
>>
>>744909823
I get the absence of few scenes like the sewer gangbang because making It NC-17 rated would have been waste since there would be 0 chance for the second chapter.

The movie is more about the Losers' friendship anyways and I liked it for what it is.

Sure, there were few dumb jump scares but most of the "scary" parts were really drawn out which I liked.

I think Skarsgaard really nailed the demon side of Pennywise/It. Too bad we have to wait for at least few years for the second part.

Solid 8/10.

Although it wasnt very scary to me, it was kind of a trip fest and the effects were pretty good. Some of the effects looked cheesy, but its because they had to make some really bizzare things to capitalize on the idea of capturing the essence of childrens fears. For instance, people say the zombie that torments Eddie is dumb looking, but it looks like what his fear is, that being infections. The story is good and it follows the book well, they aren't afraid to show kids getting fucked up, so its pretty cool. And as for the jumpscares, they aren't predictable, but they aren't scary, it depends on if pennywise is scary to you or not. If you dont know enough about the book, the movie might not make much sense, but if you've read it its really good, and its good even if you havent read the book. And it does have horror tropes, but they're actually reasonable because of certain character traits that make them important. I enjoyed it and id recommend it to other people, about 8.5/10 for me. Anyone giving lower scores based upon it not following horror tropes is a retard.

It's shit compared to the original.

Pennywise has been downgrade to a CGI jump scare monster from his former articulate, creepily charismatic self.

This makes the whole show sort of centered around CGI jump scares provided by Pennywise.

This is good news for brainlets who can't into dialogue, mystery or intrigue.

Even then, its just about as good as any C list movie you'll find on ShitFlix

In 4 days, IT sold enough tickets to make back over 5 times its production costs, set more than a couple box office records, and set itself up for blockbuster status.

Was IT a great movie? Well, not really, but it IS a must-see for Steven King fans, and everyone who liked the book and the old mini-series with Tim Curry as Pennywise.

King fans-- the sort that dote on everything he's written-- are a strange bunch, and some of the most vicious arguments I've ever been involved in were with his fan club. King has written two and a half great novels, a lot of excellent short stories, and a giant pile of steaming offal. Try to read the Dark Tower series without incurring brain damage or swearing off the written word forever, yet there are literate idiots that will defend that dreck.

King fans, and in specific, IT (the novel) fans HAD to buy a ticket. These fans also HAD to cry like freshly spanked pubescent tweeners when they witnessed an 1,100+ page epic novel crammed into a two and a quarter hour flick: "character development! establishing scenes! background motivation!" they'll snivel.

OK, you have a huge novel as source, a small budget, but potentially a huge fan base... what do you do? Hire a director who cut his Hollywood teeth on commercials. Then the script will take fractions of half the novel, assemble them like snap together pieces of a linear jigsaw puzzle, and while it doesn't really tell the story, it's enough to sell tickets; lots of tickets.

For the mini series fans, Skarsgård is no Tim Curry, although his makeup is far better as is his accompanying cgi. However, still no character development, no background, just brief scenes, one per character, to establish motivation.

The timing of the release was calculated as well. A low budget horror movie released in September, make some fat stacks, let it crash, then the director's cut shows up on pay channels, disc, and netflicks for Halloween.

I heard Clive Barker was going to ghost write and finish the novel King didn't finish before he died.

Ghost write because too many people would complain about him but the family likes him.

But so much of King's stuff is from the small town Maine background bla bla bla..I agree with that...but not so much that Barker is more city oreinted so he couldn't really get into the right mindset to write like King.

No matter who it is, people will complain, either King fanbois or fans of whoever does the ghost writing (you know it won't stay secret forever) because they think other horror authors are so much more sophisticated and shouldn't "lower" themselves to finish a King book.

To me, the original miniseries was very good.

In the new movie, the best performances are by the kids, who do a really good job and have lots of genuinely funny lines. The kids in the miniseries were also pretty good, but in the miniseries Pennywise stole all the scenes and was really the central focus of the miniseries. In this movie it felt like the opposite, where the kids were the focus and Pennywise was a secondary part of the plot, maybe this is because the performance of Tim Curry was so good in the first. This new Pennywise was ok, but did not blow me away. The new Pennywise is trying to be scary by playing up the standard horror movie creepy behavior, but the old Pennywise acted in a jocular, even semi-normal way a lot of the time, which made him more creepy than trying overtly to act creepy, if you know what I mean.
Also the movie had a nice slow burn and build-up, but then the switch to the kids getting to the point of going after Pennywise happened rather suddenly, the movie seemed to switch gears rather abruptly at that point.
The effects were very good.
I think the main drawback in the new film really, is the clown.

I'm a cynic and think 99% of new movies are shit so i was pleasantly surprised I didn't hate it.

They showed monsters whos cgi just didn't work for too long, some scenes just werent directed well and a lot of people will say it pandered to the stranger things crowd too much (but it stuck to the plot of the book well enough for me to disregard the obvious similarities..)

6.5/10 - 7/10

Was not nearly as scary as it should've been.

Again im a harsh dick. You'll probably enjoy it.. whatever.

Loved the book, hated the miniseries, loved the movie. If you're expecting to shit your pants, it's the wrong movie. The CGI is also pretty noticeable at some points.

But horror movies NEVER have a good story and likeable characters AND managed to scare you, so in that sense, it succeeded. The book frightened me, interested me, made me laugh and warmed my heart. The movie succeeds on all these fronts.

The book and the miniseries.

>>744917194
The miniseries fell wayyy short of the book, but the essence of the characters and villain were there.

The new CGI Pennywise is basically Jar Jar Binks with makeup and occasionally big teeth.

You know what, fuck that, Jar Jar Binks was more believable and had better dialogue.

I normally am good at understanding why normies like something, but I can't figure out why they like this movie so much?

Maybe it's because they think they're being super intellectual by watching a movie adaptation of one of Stephen King's better works?

There is honestly NOTHING of value in the film its self.
