I don't get it. I just don't get it.
I've experienced the same thing. Right now I'm experimenting a bit and found a few different formulas to get healthy threads, and I'm making an effort not to resort to lewd or lowbrow political stuff. it's nice. Some take more effort than others, and I've had to resort to bumping my threads a few times before some of them get rolling.

Chanology and other such events led to edgy pseudo-normalfags discovering /b/, which led to just plain old normalfags discovering /b/, and they just use it for normalfag shit.
The way to make /b/ good again is to drive al lthe normalfags out.
1. make some more containment pornography boards (e.g. /pb/ - Hardcore/Random) then crack down on pornography here
2. Move political shit baitposts to /pol/ or /trash/
3. Move shit like "10/10 facebook hotties" to /soc/ or /trash/
4. Spam obscure anime everywhere. Normalfags hate anime that isn't mainstream, it's really uncool. If the mods don't crack down on it, or by some miracle help us with it, it will end up driving off boring normalfags. This was achieved with great success during the days of /mlpol/, it works incredibly well.
