If you are a cat person and have never had a dog I would suggest getting a very basic and normal dog first rather than immediately jumping into a dog that requires a lot more investment.

There is a 70 year old woman where I walk my dogs sometimes that thought it would be a good idea to adopt a 150lb mutt with behavioral problems. A nice dog in its way and good intentions on her part but it was a complete fuckup.

Samoyed. 10/10
>>

does your dog liek it?
>>
>>744704855
It really depends on a lot of things. How often you want to be walking the dog, how much room you have, illnesses that certaint breeds are are prone to, and just what you are comfortable with. Big dogs are generally in my experience easy to train, but need to be excersized more often. Only downside is a shorter life span and usually with most hip and joint problems. If you want a small dog, I have had plenty of chihuahuas and as long as you discourage barking they're fine. But you gotta do it when they're young or else they don't start yapping. But it all depends on the dog. I've had close to 50 dogs and not one was ever the same

I agree 100 % Goldie or a Lab.

Found my dream dog not long ago. The dogo Argentino. Look them up. Interesting back story on how they were bred.

>Golden Retriever
If you want an awesome dog get a golden.

They're fucking tragic though. They highest rate of cancer among dogs,60% of goldens die of cancer. Anymore having a golden that makes it past 10 is a rarity.

Don't let that scare you off though I just feel people need to know what their getting into. If you get a golden you wont have as much time as you want, but they're such fantastic dogs that you could have 1000 years and it wouldn't be enough.
>>
>>744705173
Malamute is bigger than a husky.

>>744704855
OP, if this is your first dog get a Lab or a Golden Retriever. Great dogs all around.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog.. Slav dogo
>>
got an australian sheppard puppy 7 months ago. hes cute af but a fucking nightmare. hopefully when i chop his balls off he will calm down
>>
OP. get a presa canario. we had a girl who lived to be 15. best guard dog and literally the smartest dog ever. i know everyone says that about their dogs but she was almost human in how smart she was. knew what i was gonna say before i said it. did i what i wanted before moving a muscle. very intuitive. great with kids. protective of family and home. shed look at us for approval if a random person she didnt know stopped by. like she'd look at us asking if she should fuck them up or if they were cool.

amazing dogs. highly suggest looking into them. a female specifically.
>>
>>744707101
I want most of the work done already, though it would be easier to train from his first boner on

A retriever or a lab. Don't get any spitz dogs (malamute, husky, pomeranian, etc) because they will be training you instead.

>>
Newfoundland. As chill as goldens (maybe even more so), unique and will absolutely draw a crowd when you go out in public.
>>
>>744707399
Those dogs are really loving and connected with the family... really good guard dogs and when they protect family and other stuff they literally kill beard and other predators
>>
>>744704855
do some research and find a dog breed that fits your lifestyle/home. if you're active and have a big yard then go for a working class dog since they love that, if you're not active then look at some hound breeds.

another thing i'd look at is general life expectancy. several of the truly large dog breeds have a very short lifespan, and it hurts to loose your pet after 8 years.
>>
>>744705249

This. Get a Lab. It's dog on easy mode.

These dogs could be considered "aggressive" and if you rent its going to be more of a pain to find a place that will accept them. Several of them are on my apartment complex's list of banned dogs.
>>
>>744706431
>Malamute is bigger than a husky.

And tastier, too.
>>
>>744707793
also, i'd suggest hounds. maybe its because i'm from the south, but they're my favorite group. had a basset hound that was completely happy sleeping all day or running laps around you in the yard for 15 years, and right now i have a whippet with a very similar personality (though far faster).
>>
>>744706839
>Malinois

Awesome dog. But not ideal for someone who has never had a dog before.
>>
>>744707126
that... is not a beginner dog breed. i've never owned one, but a friend did and he could be an absolute monster. if you don't socialize them very early on with lots of people the dog becomes VERY aggressive to strangers, and when the dog weighs more then most adult men do it becomes impossible to control.
>>
>>744707958
Cane Corso can be aggressive, but they're not the worst i've seen in this thread. would still avoid though unless you know what you're doing.

Don't listen to this person. A Dogo Argentino as a first dog is a terrible idea. In fact, don't get any mastiffs at all. Just avoid all mastiffs (English mastiffs included), pitbulls, Chow Chows, and any dog ending with the word "Inu" like the Akita Inu or Shiba Inu. They will all be initially impossible to live with for a person who doesn't know anything about them and even when you do learn to live with them, they might not be particularly pleasant dogs. Pitbulls can have amazing personalities but can be a huge liability and are often dog aggressive.

The idea of a big, tough dog might seem cool until reality sets in and you have to live with one.

A lot of commenters here are recommending a golden retriever. That's a great idea. You really can't go wrong with a golden retriever in terms of personality. A shitty golden retriever can exist, but they are anomalies. They just seem to be better at enjoying life than a lot of other dogs and they will make your life more enjoyable.

If you're allergic to dogs, get a standard poodle or a miniature schnauzer. Standard poodles are geniuses (and require discipline) and miniature schnauzers are smart and full of personality. But then again I'm kinda biased toward miniature schnauzers because I have one.
