We have storm shutters. We store them flat in the loft in the garage.

They are a 3 piece system. The first part is an inner frame structure that sits flush with the window frame and extends out over the sides. The structure gets drilled into the frame. A plywood covering is put over the structure on the inside to catch glass (faster than taping). Finally a large wooden board is placed over the window on the outside and drilled into the frame.

Each one is coded for location and painted bright orange in the bottom left corner so the orientation is instantly known.

The whole house was done in 6 hours.

If it gets through that it would get through the wall. If you live with dangerous weather and haven't prepared for it you are a useless person.
