It's nearly impossible to find a major manufacturer that will offer a non-assisted manual, there hasn't really been any on the market since the 80's. Modern manuals are more expensive to maintain than automatics. They wear out faster, even under the most ideal conditions. That said, autos have outperformed stock for so long, the only reason to get one is because you're either a farmer, you have a collectors car and/or race on a track, or you're too poor for a modern car.

Either way, it's only a point of conversation when you're a little kid and driving is new and you think driving stick is some big thing. It's not.

The price differential is hardly huge, to be fair.

In the past automatics only had 4 gears and drank fuel like fuck. That's not a problem for Amerifats I know, but us Yuropoors have way more expensive fuel (let's not get into the whole gas thing, ok?).

But you are also right to say that recently (not "for so long" in my experience) that the difference now is minimal so it's probably worth paying extra if you value easier and more convenient driving (as I do), but if you like to rev the tits off your car only a manual will do.

Also I have a 14 BMW 5 series with 30K mi, a 15 Chevy Silverado with 50K mi and a 01 Jeep Wrangler with 163K mi. The 5 series has racked up more drivetrain repairs than the other two vehicles combined.

I'm an American and I can drive manual but choose not to. I live in an area where people drive like retards constantly cutting each other off and such. I don't wanna spend all my time shifting, I already have to babysit the other drivers

Well the jeeps are pretty solid. My grandpa's CJ5 (I think) is from 1975 and it's a straight 6. It's solid. Your MG is british, the British don't have a good track record for being reliable. I admit I work on my 1982 5 series BMW pretty regularly, nothing major. But then again it has 330k on the original engine and trans. It's a pretty nice car though and doesn't leak/ drip a single drop of fluid. I have seen many other old BMWs with well over 300k. Some nicer some complete beaters. I've had mine for 10 years now.
