Why in the fuck wasn't Houston evacuated? Once again we are approaching Katrina levels of failure from the current president. He has totally botched this disaster causing many more casualties than what we could have had if we had a democrat president.

http://heavy.com/news/2017/08/why-wasnt-houston-evacuated-mandatory-evacuation-issued-sylvester-turner-ed-emmett-abbott-trump-hurricane-harvey/

This is one more abysmal failure in a list of many for the current administration. I think the time for impeachment has come since there are now many deaths that can be directly attributed to the failures of our president.
>>
The mayor, a Democrat, told people to ignore the governor who said to evacuate. So fuck off fake news.
>>
>>743466394
>Why in the fuck wasn't Houston evacuated?

Snowflake says what?
>>
>>743467003
And the Mayor was right.
There was no plan for evacuation and evacuating 6,5 million people would have been an unrealistic attempt and just made shit worse.

The rescue people agreed and has backed the mayor up. Local leaders usually knows best what works for their city.
>>
>>743466394
> Mayor Sylvester Turner (D) defended his decision not to order evacuations before the city was hit by torrential rain from Hurricane Harvey.
> "You literally cannot put 6.5 million people on the road," Turner said in a press conference. "If you think the situation right now is bad, you give an order to evacuate, you are creating a nightmare."
Yeah, but a nightmare that wouldn't kill everyone.

> But there seemed to be confusion around what Houston residents should do, with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) calling for an evacuation at a Friday press conference. "If you wait until you realize how serious this condition is, you likely will find that it's too late for you to be able to evacuate," Abbott said.
So the democrat ignores the Republican just to make a point. The real kicker is:

> The volume of this weekend's Harvey rainfall was largely predicted. CNN meteorologists on Friday forecast more than 20 inches of rain, and the National Weather Service first put Houston under a Flash Flood Watch -- meaning flooding was a possibility and residents should be prepared -- on Thursday afternoon at 4:38 p.m.
They had two whole days. Nobody had to die in this flood. It was just Democrat feels over reals and a wish that it would all somehow be okay if they just whined and did nothing.

Oh, and this is from CNN, so even the Clinton News Network couldn't find a way to bias it any harder than this in favor of the dumbass who murdered his city with stupidity.
>>
>>743467578
>no one had to die

I mean, this is pretty sensationalist. There are always plenty of people who stay behind no matter how bad the hurricane is. It's not a question of politics, it's the fact that people will stubbornly stay back during the storm for... some reason. I imagine a lot of people who stay behind do so because they simply do not comprehend how much danger they are in. Evacuation order or no.
>>
>>743467975
It's not usually because they don't know the danger, but because they're not going to leave their entire life behind. Even though there's very little you can do once it begins, people still feel they have more power over the situation if they're there to witness it.
>>
So let's look at the facts here.

* Trump says climate change is a hoax (doesn't believe in science)
* Trump gets into office, and only 8 months later Hurricane Harvey happens. First one of this magnitude in 12 years! Last one was under Bush.

Why are republicans science denying dingbats? When democrats are in control these things don't happen as often, because they are more climate friendly. As soon as Trump gets in he throws out all regulation on coal, and backs out of the Paris agreement, and BAM, Hurricane Harvey!
>>
>>743467578
Imagine trying to evacuate. Literally stuck on the road due to traffic. And the flooding starts. Cars start moving, people start scrambling. Now they don't even have shelter and have to worry about being crushed by free flowing cars.

If you don't evacuate early enough, it can be just as disastrous trying to leave in the middle of the storm as just waiting it out.
>>
>>743468061
I suppose that's a lot of it to. Frankly I just don't understand why anyone who decide to hang back in order to protect their livelihood when there's massive amounts of flash floods being predicted. The smartest thing to do would be to take the most valuable stuff (monetary or otherwise) and get the fuck out of there. The rest be damned since there is literally nothing to be done about it. This is why you don't live in a hurricane zone, particularly in the Gulf.

Because last time 100 people died evacuating Houston, this time some people got wet.

>>
>>743468247
Agreed. However, I live in Florida right on the east coast and wouldn't think of moving. I love this place. But getting out to a safe place is important. You can always come back and rebuild, unless you're dead.
>>
>>743467975
in 2008 when the Hurricane hit Houston (I think it was Cat4) they told people to evac, the streets got congested and there were hundreds who died from heat exhaustion ON THE ROAD because their car didn't have a/c and the traffic wasn't moving. it took 24 hours to go from Houston to Dallas (a trip that normally only takes 4 hours)

the governor also said, earlier in the week, if you are evacuating, do it early; it was the emergency response correspondent who tweeted out for everyone to stay put

>>743466394
you do realize that Houston is a 7.5 million person city, could you imagine asking LA or NYC to evacuate in under 24 hours, and the kicker is, you can only use 1 4 lane US highway since all the others put you right back into the path of the disaster

Idiot.
Hurricanes far worse are common throughout the globe yearly. Climate Change isn't a U.S. phenomenon. Also, not a man made thing. Trump is fully aware of the pollution problem and doesn't deny that we need environmental protection to some degree.
That being said, there are around 200 nations on this planet. ALL OF THEM have their own pool of natural resources. They ALL seek prosperity. They will all harvest those resources to varying degrees of efficiency and utilize them to varying degrees of waste and waste management will also vary. There is NOTHING Trump or the United Nations can do about this fact. CHINA alone used more concrete in recent history then the rest of the world did in ALL of history.
Trump was right to pull out of the Paris Climate Accords which would have accomplished nothing. And Trump nor anyone else is responsible for nature doing what nature does.

HOUSTON FAG HERE

The rain isn't really as bad as the media is making it out to be. Actually, Its barely rainning at all in Central Houston. The biggest parts being hit are the suburban areas, which is pretty much safe.

Correct.
>Get 6.5 million people into cars
>turn every highway into a parking lot
>hurricane arrives
>reinact holocaust but with Texans
>>
>>743469276
the average human walks at a pace of 6mph, 3mph if they're having to carry anything with them. Do you realize just how vast Houston, let alone a hurricane, is? In 24 hours, walking, they could MAYBE make it across town. and thats not taking into consideration all the water and food these people would need to carry for this trek since we're telling store owners to shut down and leave too.
>>
>>743469474
anywhere near a reservoir is being flooded, that's about it. and generally these people know what they've gotten themselves into when they bought their house. this isn't the first time we've gotten a lot of rain

Dumbass, do you not understand the implication of that much concrete?
It means they created infrastructure to support those empty cities. They consumed and created the foundation for the consumption of goods/services. Plastics, food, etc. All contributing to pollution. EVERY country is doing this. What can Trump or the U.N do about it?
Idiot

Specific counties and townships also did give the order to evacuate, they took into consideration where rivers and reservoirs etc would be and tried to remove people from those areas first

weeks, months, years

and if you're trying to be political (ie something recent) it wasn't the entirety of the population trying to move at one time

if you want to know what it would be like to evacuate a major city, find a large ant pile and start pouring boiling water on it, slowly; for effect, barricade one side so they all have to move "north".
>>

That screams a level of incompetence that means everyone should have been fucked by the Hurricane.

ITT: People not from Houston make it seem like we're having a political disaster.

Nothing here is completely unexpected or something we needed instruction on how to handle (except for the niggers I'm sure)

Things are flooded, the water will go back, and we will be fine. We don't need this being political. Our nigger mayor, as much as he's a nigger, didn't do anything wrong. People would have been stuck heading out of town on I10 when that shit hit.

Anyways- we're fine fuck you.

this is the difference between the right and the alt-left, the conservatives (ie right in both senses of the word) understand that staying put was the best course of action given the facts provided at the time (quick moving hurricane that was due south of Houston), Corpus and Victoria had evacuation orders. When it stalled south of Houston, causing rain and flooding, the right defended the stance

meanwhile, the alt-left immediate starts pointing fingers in all directions...well in 1 direction, to the right. special snowflakes have been taught all life that you have to blame the white man (ie the male conservatives) for all your woes in life
