The right drug makes a huge difference. Many times DRs give an rx because it’s cheap or because drug reps sent them on a cruise. Doesn’t mean it’s the right one. Don’t be afraid to tell the DR if you feel like it’s not helping you. Everyone’s body chemistry is different. What works for you might not work for the next person. You have the right to be involved in your mental health.

Sounds like you’re in a more depressive state. Happens a lot when you suppress the mania. Schizophrenic disorders mimic bipolar disorder in a lot of ways. They might look into adding an antidepressant to help combat those sx’s. I normally prescribe latuda to interact with schizo-depressive sx’s

Meh, we get it. It’s just something we have to pound into people. Most of us DRs are not pillars of health either.
Just remember to try. Think about if your eating things because it’s easy and cheap, or just easy and your too lazy to make something yourself. I’ve caught myself at McDonald’s just being a lazy fuck after a long day when I could have spent ten minutes at home cooking something halfway decent. Just a matter of perspective.

You’d be surprised how many “socially normal” people browse /b/. Most people that go into psychology go because they want to know more about what is wrong with them psychologically. I’ve got plenty of problems myself, trust me.

There is no real mental issue with what you’re doing unless it’s due to a porn or sex addiction. The medical effects though, I couldn’t say. My specialty is in they “why” of what you do, so I’d need to know what caused the addiction, if anything specific happened, medication changes, etc. and those are things your DR likely knows about already. it’s nothing to be worried about sharing with your DR. Trust me, we have heard a lot worse than that.

Didn't read thread.
Why do you call yourself schizophrenic?
I understand what the criteria are for diagnosis, just don't understand the acceptance of a label given by psychiatrists.
I hear voices in my head, have frequent auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations, coupled with persistent paranoid delusions.. but I don't subscribe to any diagnosis.

I genuinely believe that diagnoses such as schizophrenia breed complacency and defeatist attitudes.
Most people have these problems. They just aren't real enough with themselves or others to admit it.

I live life as a productive member of society. What is it that makes you subscribe to such a diagnosis. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe you're ill.

Ahh, sorry, I know that as Blanchard’s.

Quite honestly, society and culture dictate a lot of this. Men are becoming more feminine due to societal norms changing toward a feminine sway. A lot of it is due to persecution from women who believe men are evil and this causes weaker males to conform to female archetypes. Learned behavior is very difficult to change and society pounds female roles into males so hard that they begin to act more feminine. Eventually to the point of transgender. It’s much more prominent now as opposed to 40 years ago because our society has also allowed more safety for those who are trans to come out and be open. In the 50s-70s you’d likely be beaten to death, now you have support groups and rights that protect you.

Because I have Schizophrenia, it's just an easy way to define what I am referring to. It's easier than saying "I'm someone who suffers from psychotic breaks, paranoid delusions, auditory hallucinations" then having to define what each of those mean.

Honestly, I’m unsure as to why. It’s likely a mix of medications and mental ability to stay focused during sexual encounters. Some find it difficult to focus on sex while having delusions and others find the voices help them. It has a lot to do with their internal struggle and how it effects them mentally.

I was the first post responded to in this post. I feel you're being obtuse.

>Why do you call a car a car? It's the same premise.
No it's not. A car is a physical object. Schizophrenia is not. Schizophrenia is something with no physical being. A 4 year old sees a car and knows it to be a car.
>It's just a word
It is not. It is a label which you have chosen to describe yourself with.

On the topic of your not believing most people have these problems, I suppose that's fair enough, but I will tell you I do have a great number of those problems, but live my life as a contributing member of society, real job, no neetbux, etc.

My point is that any diagnosis is given to you by someone who will never hear the voices in your head. They will never knowthe true reason you feel dysfunctional.

I did read through the thread. You sound like you're not doing anything meaningful with yourself.
Why??

I have near constant hallucinations, but a firm grasp on what other people believe to be real. I know that my oddities do not translate into common ground, and posit that many people, if not all, "suffer" hallucinations and paranoid delusions to some degree, but know that the more fantastical elements or their reality are not common to those around them.

Why would you let anyone else define you?
Why would you assume you that the complications of your mental health make you mentally ill?

You’re a DR, don’t let personal bias get in the way of your life. If he is schizophrenic then it can be helped with meds and therapy if he is willing. No need to break off with someone if they aren’t physically or emotionally abusive and you care about them. The diagnosis is not the person. Only you know if it’s something you can live with.

But he has to want help. You can’t help someone that refuses your help. Your only real option if you want to stay with him is to show him unconditional positive regard and hope that he is able to see that and want to better himself to stay in the relationship.

Cars and neurological disorders are different. Your response contributes to my belief that you are being purposely obtuse.
>That's what words do, describe things.
Words describe a great many things. Labels, on the other hand, describe and define people. You have chosen to let a psychiatrist ascribe to you something which defines you. "Car" does not alter anyone's self-perception. "Schizophrenic" is a misapplied umbrella term which allows you to view yourself in a light aside from "human being".. the point I make is that your acceptance of a label, a crude label affixed to you by someone who will never be in your head, skews your perspective of yourself. The power of a "label" exceeds the power of a "word."

>Mentally Ill is not a thing
Damn right, but schizophrenia is a feature on a list of "disorders" which the western world uses to describe people as being ill.

"Schizophrenic" is a crude misrepresentation of your mental state used by those who would label you as mentally ill to describe your divergence from the norm. Your acceptance of the label "schizophrenic" is contingent upon your acceptance of that paradigm.
Why accept a broken paradigm? You claim not to let anyone else define you, yet you did not individually conceive of schizophrenia. Do you not see the seg-fault??

Understood. Mostly I'm in this thread because I present as classically schizophrenic... And I want to see why such a diagnosis is so definite. I don't feel Ill. I want to hurt people. I want to hurt myself. But I doubt strongly that my explanations of the relationships between myself and the voices in my head which I would describe to someone such as yourself would ever be able to make you understand what I to through.

I don't feel I need help. I'm managing. I have a real job. Less relationships than I'd like, but relationships all the same, based on SOME understanding. I want to know why anyone would subscribe to the notion that they are broken.

Speaking from a DRs point of view, the diagnosis is only there for insurance purposes. We have to have something coded in the system to treat otherwise insurances won’t cover anything including medications.
I treat the person. I’ve always been very Rogerian in my approach to therapy. The diagnosis is for billing purposes only and I always go with the least damaging/restrictive diagnosis possible, and then I treat the individual, not the disease.

I never said a car and a neurological disorder were the same things.
The words are the same, though. As I've said.

>Labels, on the other hand, describe and define people.
You're imposing your own bias view on what a "label" is. "Apple" is a label, "Human" is a label. Labels are just words to describe things.

I do not subscribe to any "labels". I say I am Schizophrenic. Not because I "identify" as a Schizophrenic, but merely because it's an easy way to describe it without using a bunch of words no one knows the meanings to.
Just like you wouldn't refer to a car as its individual parts.

Most people search for meaning in their life. Logotherapy describes this a lot. They want to know why they are what they are, why they feel how they feel, it’s just like any other medical condition. If your heart hurts you want to know if it’s a heart attack, stroke, panic attack, AAA, etc. same goes for most people with mental disorders. We want to know what it is that’s causing our actions or reactions. I’m Bipolar II; recurrent episode depressed; with psychotic features and I have anxiety and panic attacks. I’m also a psychiatrist. The disorders don’t define me, but I know what I have and how it affects me. This helps me manage it.

Everyone’s training is part of a “profit-motive based machine” would you want to train for 8-10 years and not get paid to do so? Again, diagnose the disorder, treat the person. Without the diagnosis the person can’t be treated. I’m not a part of the insurance or pharmaceutical sector, I just have to code something to bill for.

>>743052802
>This scares me
Why? I genuinely don't believe anyone among us never has a desire to cause harm to themselves or others. The fact that my desire to cause harm presents itself more corporeally (to myself and none other) makes me no less likely. Anyone may in a fit of rage or another intense emotion decide to cause harm. I'm not scared, and I literally have voices screaming through my conciousness on a near daily basis that I'm not worth it, that you're not worth it, that I'm worthless unless I remove from the earth the scourge of heartless, unfeeling automatons which surround me. I'm sorry you're scared, but I've no intention of listening to the voices. The threats. The pain. The fear. I don't care how bad it hurts, my pain cannot compare to the pain caused by the damage I could do. It's not worth it.
If you want anything badly enough, as I want humanity to matter more than the sick voices inside my head, then you will sacrifice your all.
Be not afraid slash go fuck yourself.

You don't answer questions. You don't strive to understand what people are trying to say. It isn't just your responses to me, it's nearly all of them. They're too brief. Perhaps it's a byproduct of your attempt to respond to all those who have a question...

There are myriad reasons to lie. Voices. Belief in the greater good. Vanity. To name a few. But I uh.. no I don't really digress. Mad on-topic, but I have something else to say..

If you're looking to help people, ignore me and get it in, but I really want to know, reaching back to my initial questions, why so you think you're fucked in the head??

I don't understand that feeling. I thought I was fucked in the head until the age of 24. Then I realized the only part of my head that was fucked was the part that thought it was fucked.

You can talk about your mental problems because you studied them, looked at them in depth. Really exacerbates the problem of other people labeling you.

Sorry if I'm projecting. Tell me I'm wrong. Id love it.

But, I do. There's a reason it takes me on average 10 minutes to reply. I understand what you were trying to say, I was telling you that you were wrong in assuming that is how I thought.
It almost seems as if you're projecting some sort of bias onto me. I don't like that. I spend quite a fair amount of time trying to understand exactly what someone is asking me. If I answer, in short, it's because someone asked in short. If someone asks "do you hallucinate" My answer will be "yes". I only answer what is asked. To answer more would be to assume, I'm not about that.

>Legitimately, I'm sorry if I've sold you short
You don't need to apologize to me. You've done me no wrong, other than your assumptions. Which I don't appreciate, but nonetheless, do no harm.

I wasn’t diagnosed with anything officially until I was 30. I knew I was fucked in the head because I was constantly either way up wanting to do crazy things and acting wild, or way down not wanting to leave my bed. The anxiety made me constantly go to emergency rooms thinking I was having heart attacks even though I knew I wasn’t, mentally it just snowballed until I had no other option but to go get checked out, at least in my mind. This caused major distress in my social/family/school/work life. That’s the definition of a disorder, so I knew I needed help. I was misdiagnosed for years and put on meds that made my sx’s worse, made me suicidal, made me homicidal, killed my sex drive, gain weight, etc. it wasn’t until I educated myself and found a DR willing to take the time to listen and process what was going on and get me on the right meds.

Ok. Fair response overall... Though I still don't think you have really grasped my point that your acceptance of the label "schizophrenic" begets a resignation to a paradigm which would label you to be ill, I do see that you MAY have been trying to understand peoples' feelings and questions.

Perhaps what I perceive as your lack of ambition is unrelated to your 'schizophrenia.'

Even so, I question your subscription to any diagnosis. Your willingness to affix to yourself a label...

Concisely, what do you gain from calling yourself schizophrenic, as opposed to describing your neurological state with respect to that which you deem neuroatypicalities in detail?

As I said previously, I don't accept the label of "schizophrenic". That would mean I subscribe to the notion of "normal", or neurotypical as you might say. Which I don't.
Like I've been trying to say "Schizophrenic" is just a word to me, no different than "car". I do not "identify" as Schizophrenic. I use it as a word to describe the set of symptoms so people know what I'm talking about.

Good description. Describes well my mental state from 17 (when I moved out) to 24.. still, I question whether that makes you "fucked in the head."

Perhaps my neuroatypicalities are really neuroatypicalities which skew my perspective to such magnitude that I really don't understand the concept of a disorder, but the slim part of me that loves me doesn't want to see it that way. That part believes that we are all 'fucked in the head', and that it is only acceptance of such a label which holds any individual back from their potential.

No one is capable of that level of introspection. Ones own biases will always cloud the judgment of one's self.
>>743058371
>ouch i would be mad if that happens to me
The worst part is it was just some random hole along a road that I couldn't react to quick enough.

Sounds like a really cheesy strat. lol

Well, I didn't wonder if I was schizo. I just went in because I was having a lot of sleep issues, and just kind of got diagnosed with it.

You should google it. That's what I'd be doing and just copy pasting it here.
Unless you're asking for my specific symptoms.

>i dont want to tell you that that hole was covered in cement from top to bottom
That's some dedication I would have got bored with it.
>>743059472
>What do you hallucinate?
My visuals are:
Tall black shadow figure that wears a black trench coat
Disembodied faces/heads
bugs/spiders/etc(rare)

Auditories are:
Voices, animal sounds, people walking in my house, doors opening, etc.

>What's some freaky stuff
I can't think of anything right off hand.

The ones I experience the most are:
Visual and auditory hallucinations, attacks of paranoia and anxiety, catatonia and the occasional delusions.
>>

>people walking in my house, doors opening

How do you cope with this? Do you just ignore almost every strange noise, or do you just check everything out when you hear it? If you check and you see something, how can you tell it's real or not? Can you differentiate these visual hallucinations from reality? Obviously you know the voices aren't real. Did you used to believe these voices were real?

Did u ever try to stop drug, and fix the things in ur life suck? Like being on 4chan is not very heatly for the mind. You could change ur environnement maybee it could be fix this way, no? >How do you cope with this?
I pretty much ignore everything. If my dog doesn't acknowledge the sound then it probably didn't happen.

>If you check and you see something, how can you tell it's real or not?
It's pretty uncommon for me to have visual hallucinations. But the ones I do have, I have very often so I'm familiar with what they are.
>Can you differentiate these visual hallucinations from reality?
Most of the time.
>Did you used to believe these voices were real?
Real is a strong word. I think they're "real" but not in the same sense as in "real" the way you or I are real.

>>743059963
>Did u ever try to stop drug, and fix the things in ur life suck?
I have.
>You could change ur environnement maybee it could be fix this way, no?
It wouldn't really fix much.
>>743060073
>But most mean ? 1 per day ?
They don't really have "Set amounts" that they happen. Sometimes it can be a few a day, sometimes none at all.
>how do u feel it
I'm not sure exactly what you mean?

When did you start to experience hallucinations, and what was your first one?
You describe quite a few types of hallucination, did they come all at once or were there long gaps between 'new' hallucinations?

>When did you start to experience hallucinations
I believe I've had them my entire life. I had all kinds of weird experiences as a child I can't explain.
But I really started to notice them in my late teens.
>and what was your first one?
The first one I can recall is having a giant cow laying on my bed when I was like 10, maybe?

>did they come all at once or were there long gaps between 'new' hallucinations?
There's usually a decent gap in between new ones.

>Have you ever had, if you can still call them this, hallucinations when your eyes were closed?
Yes, but they're not conventional hallucinations. It's usually just like lights and colors with moving pieces just floating around.
It's quite odd.

>You say there's usually a deep gap, could you give any examples?
Examples of the gap?
One of my first recurring hallucinations was the black figure, he came after my first psychotic break I think. Then a few months later is when the faces started to show up.
Does that answer your question?
>>
If you could change the personality of your voices, what kind of personality would you want to give them? Or would you make them disappear completely?
>>
>>743061372
Nobody asks to be alone.
Nobody asks to be an addict(vidya and weed in my case)
Nobody asks to develop schizoaffective disorder because of it
Nobody asks to be unable to get a job(I even haven't worked in my life, and it isn't because I haven't tried...)
I could go on for days... damn how much does my life suck.
Anyway... 6 days remaining for my bday, who knows maybe I'll kms for once.

That isn't exactly true.

Happy early birthday. Hopefully it's a decent one for you.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, because I'm not that kind of person. But, you should consider all of your options.
>>743061603

Yea probably.
>Did you get diagnosed with the subcategory catatonic or did you give that to yourself?
Technically I was diagnosed paranoid schizo. But I gave myself the catatonic category because I feel it better suits me.
