It's pretty fucking good. Almost all of the characters are great, and even if you don't like one of the couples, it's fine since episodes generally have at least three segments.
I recommend watching first two episodes to decide if you like it. First one isn't as strong as second, but they are still good and give indication of what you'll be getting.

A huge problem is hipsters do not like anime just for the fact that they're popular and no other reason. Most people I talk to will say they hate a show like NGNL and I'll ask how they felt about it and they'll go on about the anime and how it was good but it could have been better or they'll say it was completely shit but in the end 98% of the time they watched the entire thing and most likely enjoyed it just like everybody else. Everybody bitches about SAO but the threads are always full when it's airing.
