You have to get diagnosed by a psychiatrist, then you can just apply for disability. There's a checklist of things you'll have to go though.

I'm skeptical about this though which makes me think it may not be classified as a delusion

Hi OP, bi-polar anon here. I am always scared to talk about my illness with people because people will think I'm not sane so I have no one to talk to.

I'm not going to make it, man. My dad is dying, my brother's house is about to get burned down by wildfire. The USA is an unmitigated disaster socially and soon economically. My best friend and only confidant is treating me like shit lately. I'm in a new city where everyone is trying to fuck me over and get a piece of me and I can't make one real friend. Haven't been laid in forever. Feeling completely hopeless.

And I can't get my medication because I can't afford to see a Dr. to refill my Rx. The bastards will only ever give me 3 months at a time prescribed so I have to pay for 4x doctor visits a year plus the Rx. I don't make enough to buy decent groceries or own a car.

And I'm getting worse. I'm more experienced now handling my illness but the more I yo-yo on and off my medications the more dramatic my depressions and manias get when I inevitably run out.

Not really a question here, I just had to say it somewhere. I've been keeping everything to myself and I have no relief.

I am bipolar. Took lithium from age 12-15. Always felt foggy. When I started taking it my doc gave me an adult sized dosage and I felt physically ill. I laid on the floor for hours.

28 now and been off RXs since age 16. I self medicate with marijuana. My biggest issues with bipolar has been the racing thoughts when I become angry or depressed. These thoughts build on one another and keep me from sleeping and make me want to kill myself.The rage and sadness goes away after a bowl.

Wouldn't recommend to everyone but weed has been fantastic for my health. I wish I would have started smoking weed earlier (started at 25).

Idk he sounds reasonably legit. His pattern of mostly auditory hallucinations sounds typical. Onset from birth is a no, but remember we're hearing this from someone purportedly schizophrenic and non-compliance with medication so it could be a weird grandiose delusion.
As for positive and negative at the same time, see it all the time. It's not like a mixed state in BPAD (ie rare af), it's fairly common for people to have AH with the schizoid social withdrawal and depressive symptoms.
The only thing that rings bs to me is that he started with visual hallucinations. Nobody starts with visuals in schizophrenia, and the only people who harp on about visuals are typically BPD idiots with pseudopsychosis. But eh... Balance of probability I'm still leaning towards actually SCZ.
