I was in a car crash that damaged my spine and I eventually found painkillers to be the only relief I could get. I spent thousands at the chiropractor and bought an expensive mattress amongst other things but no use. Now I only use them for pain but I indulge heavy when I do. Opiates are good for not only physical pain but also emotional, it can make you completely detached from your emotional self and time no longer holds meaning taking you far from where you are. I have a platform bed which is two pieces of 3/4" Baltic Birch on a torsion box frame. I have a thin 2" memory foam topper on it. After a month of constantly staying over at my house my boyfriend's back pain has significantly improved.

My theory is that you move more on firm surfaces and that movement keeps your joints from getting too stiff. Hell I can't even sit still for 2 hours at the movie, let alone 8 hours in bed.

My brother passed away about 8 months ago due to an opiod overdose. I've lost about 5 or 6 friends to heroin in the past 3 years.. growing up around a parent and sibling abusing them pushed me away from too much opiod abuse. I still occasionally took painkillers but only when prescribed. I am an alcoholic though but have been sober for a while, although I do occasionally take kratom. I would urge any opiod addict to make the switch to get through the withdrawals and get some help. It's not worth it with all the bad batches of heroin out there. oddly oxy is typically more expensive than smack, fentanyl is very expensive on it's own but is usually cut into heroin. You pop oxy's maybe 5 or 10 mg at a time for a few months to a year or so and then when you can't afford them anymore (it's often more than $1 a milligram) you start buying smack because it's cheap. It's the dose of anything that kills you. Long term opiate use in safe doses is perfectly fine. I'm prescribed codeine, have been taking them non-recreationally for going on for six years now. I was really worried when I could only find research about long term recreational use in high doses. Turns out there's basically nothing at all to worry about - hence not damning research about negative effects - of opiate use long term at safe or prescribed doses. The only noteworthy factors are liver & kidney function and they're factors when you start your prescription as much as they are when you end your prescription.

Safe doses include doses easily enough to get you high. For a first time user 60mg of codeine will melt your face. the LD50 is something like 450mg in an accute dose. Codeine is processed fast too, so spreading your intake can mean you can take the LD50 in a day and have no negative effects at all. I've never even considered doing that though, I take codeine for a purpose, not to get high, I never take more than 200mg in a day and that's a bad day. My prescribed dose used to get me off my face. These days I don't feel it but the pain killing effect is still decent.

A lot of recreational users take it too far though, either because of lack of education on the subject, tolerance to the drugs, or a lack of caring whether they OD or not. An addict can take a lot more than an average person and still be safe because their liver is primed to process the stuff. This is why you usually see people who fall out of rehab killing themselves with an OD: they've taken what they used to take expecting to need that much but their bodies have stopped being prepared for those kinds of doses.

TL;DR: long term opiate use is fine, it's the dose that kills you, like with anything.

you guys need to learn how to taper off a drinking binge. i've been in the situation you are in, and it's not good. i've also gone to the hospital thinking i was legit dying, but it was just super anxiety. since then i've learned to just drink half as much each day for a few days until you're drinking nothing. it's hard to do, but when the stuff is making you sick putting it in and making you even worse by not drinking at all, you get some kind of logic and willpower to do this weaning off successfully.

Have you noticed an increase in recovery time after a bender? That's what I'm most disturbed by. It used to take me at most an afternoon of sleeping in after ingesting massive quantities of liquor and beer. In the last alone that figure has more than doubled, with every second of 72 hours spent hardly able to stand and shaking, unable to eat. After that I quit but I'll never really be the same mentally.
