Can't tell you how they are similar, but they differ in how your "traits" are aligned. While MBTI has a two-way trait rating where one end is introvert and the other end is extrovert, which measures how you react to different environments and situations. Rather the Big 5 is more of how much of an extrovert are you, rating from 0 to 100, 0 being not extroverted at all and giving you a not necessarily a negative trait but rather you're just less susceptible to certain situations, i.e. do you feed off the energy of others in a party or do you just go for a little while until you're spent and go home. MBTI sorta affixes you to a trait, while the Big 5 tests your malleability in a certain situation.
