Your characters are rarely just sitting there talking. They are doing things. Eating, reading, drinking, playing games. We multitask...

So instead of:

"Nu am mawe!," he turned and waddled away as quickly as he could.

Integrate the character actions into the dialogue like that and it will be more natural.
