You stretch and yawn. You really weren't planning on taking a nap right now - you still have shit to do - but holy hot damn, the sun feels good...

You just moved into this place earlier today, and you are more than a little bit tired.

Moving was a pain in the ass, and in an odd way you were thankful that you had so little. It took you all day to get there and settled in, and now you were chillin' in the backyard with not a care in the world.

The new place is quite nice, way better than your old place near downtown. Actually, it wasn't so much the place itself that sucked. It was the neighborhood surrounding your old place that sucked. There are a lot of really nice places to live near downtown, and you weren't in any of them.

When you don't have much, you have to live within your means.

Your old neighborhood was... interesting. Conveniently close to downtown, which was a blessing and a curse. Traffic was bad and the city never seems to sleep, and no matter how hard you tried, you could never quite get used to the noise. Then there were times when the wind changed direction and it stunk to high heaven, and the homeless people were down right aggressive. Still, it was your place and things weren't too bad, or so you told yourself.

Then, calm one day, you went to get something to eat from the hamburger joint around the corner. You were on your way back in a really good mood which lasted right up until you got home. Out front was total chaos - there was a lot of talking and rushing around and upset faces. It took a few minutes for you to find out that some dude walked up and curb-stomped one of your neighbors so badly that he was unlikely to survive. You don't know what led up to that, but in this neighborhood it could have been anything.

That was the last straw. You were out of there.

Somehow, you managed to find a new place in the suburbs. It's a ways from downtown, but it's also quiet, clean, and has lots of room. It was a lucky find, and you wish you could have moved here a long time ago.

You close your eyes and start to drift off, thinking about what you need to do, when you hear the murmur of voices. You strain to hear if they are get- yes, they are getting closer. You groan inwardly. You know what those voices mean, and you don't feel like dealing with this shit right now. You'd much rather stay here, bask in the sun, and take a nap. You earned it.

As the voices get closer, you sit up with a sigh and survey the yard. The backyard of your new place is pretty nice in general - healthy grass, a few bushes, and a nice bit of shade from the neighbor's tree - but compared to downtown it was damn near heavenly. Around your old place, the only bits of green one would see was a bit of grass growing through cracks and the occasional fluffy. You don't know anything about the previous resident, but the yard is in good shape.

You'll be damned if some invaders are going to ruin it for you.

You look around and quickly spot them. There are only two you can see, but there are undoubtedly others. The city was crawling with the damn things, and they always acted like they owned the place. You sit up with a grunt and make your way over to them. The damn things are oblivious, just chattering away about whatever the hell. You make a small noise to get their attention, but they don't even look up. Sometimes you wonder how they get on as well as they do – they always struck you as clumsy and clueless.

You really don't have anything against them - you've heard both the perks of living with them and the horror stories, of course, but in spite of seeing so many around, you rarely gave them much thought. You were intrigued by them, and although you couldn't really see living with one, you didn't particularly want to hurt them. You don't take pleasure in bloodshed, and if you could simply run the damn things off, you'd prefer that.

You get closer and make some more noise, and finally one of them notices you, and alerts the other. Good, you now have their attention. You stare at them silently for a second, allowing the tension to rise. It's funny - you've heard of others having so much trouble, but how can anyone be plagued by something they are something smarter than? You know how these things think, and you know exactly how to handle this. Time to nip this in the bud.

You step forward and stand as tall as you can, puff out your cheeks, and, in the meanest voice you can manage, you yell at them.
