For deer, sure. But plenty of hunting is done for pest control. Coyotes, jackrabbits, groundhogs, etc. There's nothing wrong with killing for pest control even though you don't eat the meat. Honestly, populations need to be culled to some extent to stay healthy. In most cases, humans have chased away many natural predators for deer and their populations have skyrocketed to such an extent they're more likely to die from disease spreading rampant through herds too big to sustain themselves than by being predated on.
