OP here, anyone care to tell me if I'm fucking up anywhere or should be looking at something different for my new build?

Already purchased:
Asus Maximus IX Code Z270 motherboard
i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Kaby Lake
Samsung 960 Evo 250 GB M.2 drive (for boot/game drive)
Western Digital Black 2TB HDD for bulk storage
EVGA G3 850W psu
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Planning to buy:
DeepCool Genome ROG case
32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3866 ram
Asus Poseidon 1080 TI Hybrid video card

I'm looking at having about $2,800 in this thing to get it going. I've only ever used AIO water coolers like the one that comes in the Genome case, so I'm still researching custom liquid cooling loops and plan to remove the stock radiator/pump system and replace it all with a custom loop integrating the graphics card once I fully understand it.

All you cunts with AMD fx cpus complaining about bottlenecking, try overclocking. I have a fx-6300 which is safely running 4.4ghz with a mid-range cooler master air cooler, and it still has a decent chunk of thermal headroom.

4.4 from 3.5 is an increase of about 25% That's pretty decent from nothing more than an air cooler. It's 45fps to 60fps.

Note entirely true. GPU's are made to run 24/7. The parts that wear out are usually the fans which can be replaced easy. Plus if you buy your cards new you have a 3 year warranty. I've been running some of my cards for nearly a year non stop with no issues. I usually aim to have a card pay for itself 2 to 3 times over before I upgrade the farm.

I'm running mid range, nothing too fancy. I5-4690k @ stock 3.5ghz, GTX 970 SSC, 12GB DDR3 @ 1333, and I'm using a 250 gb SSD. It's a pretty solid rig for what I put into it. 200 for the CPU and 190 for the graphics card. A really good computer for about $550-$600 dollar range.

i have a i7-6700k and have been thinking about getting an m.2 ssd, eventually. i read the specs for the 6700k and it only has 16 pci-e lanes. i already have a graphics card using all of it. im told m.2 uses 4 more. what happens if i do buy the ssd? will it not work, or will it lower performance on the graphics card? if it slows up the gpu, i dont think that would be worth it. ive never had an ssd before, so im sure a sata ssd would be a significant upgrade for me. im also jsut distraught my new build wasnt as perfect as i first thought. thanks in advance, and sorry if im missing something obvious

>>
>>741119832

Going from 16x PCIe lanes down to 8x for your GPU won't affect it one bit. Even when using 8x, it's still the fastest transfer connection in your entire PC. You won't see a difference in your GPU performance... however, moving to M.2 NVMe for your storage will blow your pubes off compared to regular storage systems

Got everything expect the graphics card for free from my brother. Total new fag to pc gaming but to me unless you guys are doing 4k gaming most of these rigs just seem like super overkill. >>
Is Windows 10 worth it? Still using 7...
>>
>>741120493

Though GPUs will use 16 lanes if available, it makes little difference in real games to operate over 8 lanes. See here: http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2488-pci-e-3-x8-vs-x16-performance-impact-on-gpus

my pc is based on an older z800. dual X5680 xenon cpus 64gigs of ram but since its a dual cpu set up that's cut in half for actual usuable ram. just a simple cheapo amd rx460 for the graphics card. i got the pc for free after my dads office got new pcs. was really just a motherboard with a case. had to buy an adapter off ebay to convert the bitch off its proprietary pin lay out but it wasn't too bad. spent about 550$ on it so far. ran into issues the fist time i dropped the new cpus in because of updates to the bios but turned out to be an easy fix just had to order an earlier gen xenon for the same socket and let it post. bitch weighs a million pounds though.

real talk amd has made it easier for budget gaming anything quad core or better from their new line is fine for basic gaming. your motherboard doesn't make a difference for fucking anything other than overclocking your ram speed also doesn't fucking matter. ssds increase load time massivly but if you don't mind a loading screen fuck it. the rx460 is god on value for money graphics cards. that's my drunk machinegun tips.

If you have never built a pc before, i would set aside several hours. I dont know what youre building in, cases can make a build easy, or hell. but once you get the mobo in, go one peice at a time and route the cables cleanly, saves you from later cleaning up a rat's nest of cables. Dont put gpu till youre almost done, but route the power cables for it. zipties/built in tie downs are going to be your friend.

Depending on what your build consists of, i would remove atleast one of those hard drive bays if possible. If you're not doing a front mount rad, it shouldnt matter. but its a little excessive for me, as far as appearance goes. Why keep them in there if theyre not going to be used? Ya know? Appears to have adequate room behind mobo tray for cables, i have had a few cases where there was barely any room and it made it real difficult.

Also be sure to install ram correctly. typically if you have to sticks next to each other it is incorrect as you are not taking advantage of the dual channel memory thats standard on (almost?) all modern motherboards. Check the manual for that
