Heath Ledger's joker was clearly better acted and didn't require a costume rework. They also let the cast of The Dark Knight sort of have this darker Batman that dealt with a Joker who was actually killing people and it was evident. Leto does that, but they really pushed the love story in suicide squad so it was less of that shitty relationship that you see in the source material. Joker was always an asshole who treated Harley like shit and often times would abandon her in order to escape. I would have appreciated a more basic Joker without all the mouth accessories and tattoos. What makes the Joker the Joker is that he's a regular guy who goes fuckin insane when his wife dies while he's off meeting with some gangsters to do a job to make enough money to provide a life for her and there unborn baby. Despite his dead wife and kid, they make him do the job anyways where batman shows up and fucks up his whole shit, causes him to fall into a big ass vat of chemicals and who knows what the fuck that did to him so end result is someone who's world is destroyed so he starts trying to destroy the world. Leto's joker doesn't fit because it plays too much on his and Harley's relationship and Joker was likely never that sentimental for fear of losing what he cherished again. Not to mention all the shit they put on him doesn't make any damn sense, it would have worked if they did that as like an alternate joker for a different film, but because they're doing like an official justice league film and tying all of these together it just seems like they're deliberately Nerfing a character that beloved by people who like a great villain and Joker's always been one of the best because he has absolutely no stake in the outcome of any altercation. He has nothing, so he has nothing to lose, even when his girl is in trouble or in danger, he doesn't care. He's pure, a villain no matter how you look at him, he has no good side.

The more I watch BvS, the more I appreciate it. The Ultimate Edition is by far the best capeshit movie of 2016 and one of the best capeshit movies of all time. It takes a few viewings to thoroughly understand it, but it really is an excellent film. Justice League is gonna fucking suck though.

I hated BvS in the theater, it just seemed grimdark and shitty. Ultimate edition was 30 min longer and I liked it better, plus it made MoS better too. It made so much more of the movie come together with supporting scenes, even little comedy beats hit better. Repeated viewings made me see more and more I liked every time. Plus I watched the commentaries, and 99% of the decisions I didn't like at first (thinking Snyder was too lazy or arrogant to make them "like the comics") I could finally see his reasoning for and agreed with. Still not a fan of the bland filters used on MoS but I can honestly say BvS is one of my favorite superhero movies now and I can't wait for JL. There are too many comic projects coming out to piss and moan about ones I don't like as much, there's finally something for everyone. And Snyder's trilogy will be remembered as a masterpiece for those that enjoy it.

I'd say a bigger problem is how super heroes have become subservient to the State. Look at the Avengers -- in the original comic, they eventually got security cards, but they started as a group of people doing good on their own. The new version has them as a special unit within SHIELD, and most of the conflict in movies like Civil War is the government. Even Man of Steel is about coming to terms with the government.
