my mother works in IT, and i remember when i was a kid she said that 'today computers are the wild west, but that won't last the decade' and i was like 'no way mum, people won't let that happen!' now i'm like, "i wonder when they'll bring back mainframe style architecture where everything is streamed from server farms and you own literally none of your software, just a subscription'

You can make a boot usb of it directly from Microsoft's site and install it. You just won't have a key to activate, but really the only things that does is prevent customisation and will occasionally have a watermark on the screen in the bottom right. What I did. I did eventually get annoyed enough with that though to pay 5 bucks on eBay for a key though.

ToS have historically NOT held up in a court of law. This isn't even the issue, it is that their anti-consumer practices are forcing the hand of anyone who cares about these things.

In this specific example, I can't use the hosts file to prevent unauthorised m$ connections because they hardcoded around it. I can't use the router because it will likely break updates for my flatmates laptop. Now if I apply workplace safety principles of EMI to this threat, you will see both elimination and minimization are insufficient protection, so isolation is my only option.

Now the only thing I really want that m$ has by the balls would be dx12. So this installation of windows is purely to run my steam games that benefit from native directx. No useful info ever exists for a second within this OS unless it was encrypted before leaving the truecrypted linux partition.

This turned out extremely convoluted but my point is that the lengths m$ have gone to have caused me and I'm sure many others to completely lose trust in anything they say do or release.

Yeah, no. Neither NVidia nor AMD have historically supported Linux properly. Their drivers are absolutely horrible and come along once in a blue moon if you're lucky. That has been one of the biggest hurdles for game makers in transitioning to Linux platforms and it remains one to this day. In recent years, things have slowly begun improving (more so on AMD's side), but it might be another decade before any *nix system catches up. That's assuming distros can find some common ground and stop bickering about every little fucking thing, like the position of window controls is the most important thing in the fucking world.

Windows 7 was the hallmark of a new generation of code, moving away from the 'strap-on' process that made Windows great. Don't forget, it was a 'strap-on' process on top of DOS to start.

Windows 8 was a graphical interface that was meant to entice the user, it was part fundraiser, but mostly to see if 'graphics' really sold - and it DID! But they failed to incorporate stability and software interaction at the same time...

Windows 8.1 came along in an effort to bridge the gap, but people didn't understand upgrading to the same thing they had, plus software was unsure if they should upgrade to the upgrade - as another upgrade would cost more development money! All was lost....

Micro$oft took a break and made Windows 10. This version of Windows was visually appealing beyond reason, but also they promised the software developers that 'this was the last version of Windows' in that it would be forever updated! They won back much of the market and today the once strong XP market base is slowly shrinking.

This is a dumb statement. You can do that in any OS. In Linux you have actual choices, like file systems, boot loaders, window managers, and distros. You don't have choices with win or osx because most users don't care about those things.

Today, XP makes up a large part of the market base, larger than Ubuntu or many other individual standing linux variants.

While XP is a standing competitor, and it has a great deal of the corporate, and home user, market share - Windows 10 is still charging strong as the market leader as an up and comer from the markets earliest innovator and billion dollar market domination developer...

P.S. howamidoing?
>>
>>740519611
XP, being only a variant on the UNIX platform, as most (or all) LINUX platforms are, or came from, the Windows 10 platform stands out with it's distinctive innovation and individualism, much gained from it's decades in the field and competition with other brands.

It strives to outperform such platforms as Ubuntu, Apple and even XP with no trouble. But it should expect none, with XP not even supported, Ubuntu on crowed funding and Apple shoveling money into it's O.S. from product hardware sales, Windows 10 is one of the only free-standing products which is software only and still releasing it's security updates in current year. The ongoing growth of the operating system, it's security protocols and anti-malware are only cornerstones of it's infrastructure, wherein you find the foundation of it's operating systems core, which makes the user interface which is now so world renowned.

It would be truly troublesome to find another software platform which can perform so dynamically as Windows 10, which EUFI based booting gives way to many options from install to device compatibility - even positioning the software into mobile O.S. sticks so that you are bootable on the go.

Ubuntu's nearest feature to this includes a segregated boot sector defined on creation with a maximum drive space of only a few gigs, which once filled with anything from software to files - is full.

Windows 10 however has the dynamic ability to work within the given parameters to make itself work for you, today, tomorrow and years from now.

It is the choice of mobile computer enthusiasts and those aspiring to be computer professionals on the go!

I talked with them before
They asked if I wanted to try that shit and I just laughed in the woman's face.
She was confused as fuck until I pointed out that my truck is 25 years old (I had already told her make/model/year) and doesn't have obd-ii or a black box.
She then told me coverage was denied for something that old.

If you care about privacy, security, reliability and performance you'd use Linux, which is free and runs on pretty much anything.

Neets playing GTA or some shit all day will likely run Windows.

I write software for a living. Window is shit. MacOS is less shit but still not as good as Linux.

Imagine the day when you cannot buy insurance for cars without the spybox

I'm sure they're enjoying watching me play New Vegas and basically nothing else

That is when I finally snap and go live off the grid.
Insurance is the biggest con in the history of man, anyway.

on laptop for internet, films and writing/gaming win10will be ok. But for work (solidwork, cad and other cam shit) win7 still is the best. Not to mention it works very well with dedicated graphic cards

>on a 64 compatible system

You mean 99% of computers built in the last 15 years or so?

>massive performance boost

You dont what you are talking about do you?

Still messing around in my first playthrough, doing my best to stay NCR.
Set up 2 radio stations recently (via geck), that was fun

It improved some of my performance in games, yes.

Also, the upgrade wiped all the pre-installed crapware, as I had to do the USB install to change to 64

>>740502786
Dude, it doesn't matter. A clean install will break within minutes at MS's own hands.

you should still be able to get insurance but without a $40 discount
you can opt out.
the OBD-II device only.
i think it only has the ability to measure mileage, when your car is running, and acceleration/deceleration.
the last part is what they like the most and what i hate the most.
i live in Austin.
every fuckin road in Austin is a parking lot.
everybody is pissed about sitting in traffic and will gun it the second they have enough room...and then slam their brakes.
or maybe its just me

I remember holding out from upgrading to windows XP.
Bloated as fucked, needed a whole gig of ram to run properly pre service packs.
I held out from 7 aswell, mostly due to the fact they dropped DOS and that the big selling point was Aero garbage that nobody uses.

Windows 10 has too many egregious design choices for me to ever use.

I have used Linux Mint for a while, loved it but there are litterally no games that run it. Also drivers are shit. Developers of games hate linux for no reason.
>>
>>740527283
>Skyrim is a playground tk build your own game.
I kinda hate to say it but Minecraft is better for that.
>>
>>740527283
Who said anything about hating it? I just said there's little depth IE no factions give a shit about each other, unlike New Vegas

And the fact that every draugr dungeon is just copypastad

The OS cost more than 150 bucks.
>>
>>740499736
Because it works. It does all that I need it to do without being spyware.

When win7 stops being an option I will probably switch to linux for my web browsing computer and keep my current one to play my games on since no new good AAA games are being made and all the good indie ones will still run on my current hardware.
>>
>>740527427
>Developers of games hate linux for no reason.

No they dont, they work with what they are given. The big holdup is DirectX for full utilization of a video card, and no real open source multi platform competitor

Now that Vulkan exists, things are going to quickly change in the linux gaming world
>>
>>740527427
>I have used Linux Mint for a while, loved it but there are litterally no games that run it.
Games don't run Linux. Other way around.

>Also drivers are shit.
That is only true if you buy shit hardware.

>Developers of games hate linux for no reason.
There is a reason, and that is that Linux dev doesn't pay dev financially. It is a well executed form of communism.
