I started saving up this year for the purpose of moving out. 3.8k in savings, a couple hundred for general spending. pay day in 5 days.
Technically I could move out right now, but I'd be shitting all over my friend because there's no way in hell to get a lease short enough for him to join me after.
I'm not in the best place, but I'm not in a bad place. Just kind of waiting. Parents are okay with me staying, I've talked it over with them. They were surprised I was trying to move out earlier in the year.. Jackass I was trying to move out with was too lazy to wake the fuck up to look at places.

for every month you stay at home you can put the rent money in investments which is a lot better imo

Probably close to $35,000 in student loans. I have access to a $250,000 line of credit I have yet to touch, but will have to use soon.

I'm a medical student though and will graduate in 2 years, so my financial situation is going to change dramatically in the next 5 years.
>>

25. I work a minimum wage job but got a huge chunk of change as an inheritance. Managed to avoid the temptation of wasting it on stupid shit and only spent it on college which obviously was money well spent considering my current employment status. Either way, I'm technically more wealthy than the majority of people my age working professional jobs and I have equity to boot. Doing the typical robot aimless wander through life trying to find a path but I can actually afford to do so.

Its a Merril Lynch WMA (wealth management account) - you decide the level of risk, they put you in it, and rebalance it every couple months. That means they kick out the poor performers, and introduce better ones. It gets about 10-12 percent a year on the level of risk I want. You want more, it becomes riskier. And I don't want much risk. As it compounds, the income rises. Example, not taking much out, next year, it'll be worth about 375k, so I'll bring about 45k.

I also have the option to use their portal for my own picks, but I don't mess with that.

Its okay to carry a little debt, they'll up the max on your cards. I usually pay about 3x the minimum, then every couple months throw a couple grand at it. I use one card, (Discover) and pay everything I can with it. Cell, groceries, gas. Stuff like that. Because they're using those rip-off gadgets at gas pumps and computers can get virus, I like having a third party between my bank account and POS locations. I only send checks to about 2-3 places a month, and only use Debit at the mac machine in the lobby of my bank.

I live in Southern CA. $50k/year here will get you a small apartment that you can split with roommates. The cost of living here is much higher, which is reflected in the wages.

A thousand a week in SoCal isn't much. Its not about the car, its about the neighborhood. Which is probably kinda shitty if he's stuffing roomies into a squalid hut.

I hear ya.. Pasadena area here. You are considered poor when your family earns less than 110k a year.
Realistically the cost of living for a family with 2 kids in this area requires a 320k salary. Anything below that is more like "getting to the end of the month".
To quantify some expenses:
- mortgage usually ~ 2-3k$/month depending how much money you can put as a downpayment
- house tax is 1.25% of the value of the house. Houses are fucking expensive hence ~7-12k year
- prescool/kindergarten this kinda shit ~2.4-3k month
- private school ~30-50k/year
- house maintenance (gardener, pool guy, various shit that needs fixing) starting 2k/year, realistically 5-10k/year
- retirement savings 5-10% of salary
- decent car(s) payments 5-10k/year
- cleaning lady ~2-3k/year
- family trips in asia or europe 5-10k/year

About 230k in a house, maybe 5k more in cash accounts. House might be worth more, last I saw, valuation was 250k, but it's always on the day with real estate.

26k in rent from flatmates.

well i inherited a construction family business, and so far it pays for itself.

I would sell it and invest but honestly, i don't see myself working in other area than construction.

Also 3.4 million in investment is not so much, only a mobile crane is about 900k.

4k is like my income on paper. I can just withdraw money form the business account but i don't want to potentially ruin the business. And i'm still in collage, drive a opel provided by the business, idk so far it works

No debt. Can't afford school. Gave no fucks to give enough fucks in high school. Didn't apply for scholarships. Was the token white kid in port Arthur tx I.s.d until sophomore year when my family moved to groves, the predominantly white school district on the other side of the overpass. South east Texas is surrounded by refineries which pay pretty damn well, but good luck getting on without knowing so and so or playing varsity foot ball with billy bob back in the day. That said port neches groves district was the type of school to pay a few million on a field house and stadium/foot ball field because they took foot ball too serious. That said none of the alumni ever went to NFL as opposed to the port Arthur side of town where the broke district ushered in people like jamaal Charles to the NFL. Png school district was the first place I ever saw actual wiggers and spoiled white fucks using the word nigga to refer to one another. Long story short majority of the fucks were a bunch of spoiled doppelgänger fucks who by age 16 were driving Mercedes, denalis and jacked up lifted f-250's. It was a school filled with a fuck ton of dumb fucks that were raised to be a fuck ton of spoiled dumb fucks. Coming from a school as the token white kid to a school of white kids made me realize why white people are hated. The school fucking sucked, I passed my classes with no effort never opening a text book, yet since my family never came from money and weren't a bunch of privileged fuck heads that complain their boss won't let them golf during work hours, I never gave a fuck enough to go to some major college where a bunch of fags frat the fuck out. And seeing my parents don't support me since they're barely scraping by, I live on my own and pay all my bills. Can't afford school cause cost of living is a bitch. Long story short fuck All these spoiled fucks, you're a bunch of faggots

Sell it for $4M. Put $500k in a shitty savings account or equivalent. Invest $3.5M in 20 diversified companies that pay good dividends. Get that $100k yr dividend income. Get a modest place to live. Travel the world for a decade or two and you'll have $10M in assets with no effort and much less risk than owning one company in a cyclical industry. Sorry if that isn't what you want to hear.

It doesn't matter what i want, because that sounds pretty much like a good plan. I've been thinking about selling but you know how it is, i feel confortable with how it still works.

Maybe i just have to stop being so beta and actually take action, even if there is risk.

Couple things here. He said its $4M "in a construction company." That's 4 million in capital he'd need to liquidate for the money. That's $4M in probably illiquid capital he'd need to find a buyer for, that probably wouldn't end up pricing where he wanted it to. Also, dumping most of your assets into 20 companies is easier said than done. Who negotiates that? And if you're just talking a stock investment funds are highly overvalued right now.

No, if he believes in the industry he should try and make it there rather than just being another fuck who puts his capital in cash investment

This guy gets it. Low beta, long horizon. By the power of compounding, it'll get juicy and you don't have to drag that elephant around. Don't act like a dick and you'll be extremely comfy for the rest of your life, and you'll probably leave more than you got. Which is a good thing.

If it's $3.5M in assets for a company that makes $200k/yr he'd easily get $4M for selling the company whole.
With the cash that you left after the savings account, invest the rest in the dividend paying companies. They're publicly traded and he could do it himself or pay a broker. Easy peasy. No negotiations whatever that means. Valuations are fairly inline with historical averages and over a 10-20 year period it won't matter too much with a up or down swing here and there. The thinking is don't touch it don't worry about it enjoy the dividend income for decades.
>>
>>739909730
I personally know two or three construction companies that buy smaller ones, to absorb the competition. Locally, I mean. Not that it would help him. But I'm sure there are similar enterprises in his town. If his company is doing jobs, which I assume it is - and I'm sure there are a couple secretaries and an accountant, and a job boss, and a crew, they don't actually need him too much. And the competition would rather he not be around to suck up money jobs.

Heres how a sellout works. You disguise it as an attempt of a merger. You approach a larger company and start negotiations to merge because "You just took the boss chair, and want to make it bigger", like you're hungry. They won't like that, and they'll offer an alternative: a buyout. And you take it.

I can't believe people fall the ETH bullshit.

There's no cap on how many ETH can be generated, they add 10 million ETH tokens every year (there's already 90 million ETH in circulation in just ~3 years)

bitcoin is a much better investment, it can only have 21 million BTC ever and coins generated per block is reduced.

If you're doing ETH long, you're an idiot

Uhh usually it's a tad more complicated than that. All these people are assuming:
1. He gets full price for the equipment. He merges there's literally a 0% chance of that happening. Perhaps they value future jobs and his companys reputation. Or maybe not.
2. He has 100% of the equity
3. There are no outstanding loans on the business
4. He has no obligation to pay out his employees
