Since we're talking about mares giving birth I might as well share an idea I had for a comic: a pregnant mare gives birth to a litter of fluffies considered undesirable by other fluffies (so a brown, a runt, and an alicorn). This causes the mare to have a mental breakdown for only having "bad" babies and she begins bawling her eyes out.

In my headcanon, fluffies are their own creatures with certain rights and protections. Feral fluffies are considered pests by most communities, while some towns and cities have "sanctuary parks" for ferals to live peacefully. All the same, if a feral lives outside one of these areas, they are allowed to be killed humanely for trespassing. This means quick, painless deaths. Abuse and torture is a criminal offense. The trick here is that you have to be caught. So, unfortunately, abuse is still prevalent, mainly in cities and farming communities.

Naturally, domesticated fluffies are considered property and protected as such, immune from "pest" status.

Personally I write fluffies as if they were smart, caring animals with incredibly deep human faults. Animals have needs and instincts that can cause them to act irrationally to us, yet fluffies are also intelligent by animal standards.

You can do a lot with the concept of fluffies, I personally prefer to write them as mostly innocent with humans and the natural world working against them.

ah in my story, most if not almost all of the fluffies are actually very well behaved, only one that i have as an absolute axis of evil fluff is a smarty mare that was pillowed before the story begins, the MC even reflects on some of the things shes done, she even corrupted a few other mares from her herd beyond the point of rehabilitation, but no where near as bad as her, they were also captured.
