Follow your dreams. I miss the golden age as well, but Newgrounds is still a nice small community. I think it's lack of popularity makes it better than say youtube, no one trying to make quick money there, everyone cares about the work they do.
I hope the site stays profitable and keeps running for years to come though, but we need people who care about the art to keep things afloat. I might get into animating in the future (when I get good enough)

Thanks. I hope when the YouTube bubble bursts that animators take refuge to newgrounds instead of vide and can bring back a once vibrant community but it makes me think, what if those flash cartoons just went out of style. Back then in the 2000s, those games were fairly cutting edge.

Yeah, they feel less "magic"
Like as people understand the technology over the years
It goes from "HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS" to "cool another cartoon"

I don't think that hurts their value at all, it only means so many fan artists and animators are on youtube that it seems cheaper. I like comparing that to films/games that are coming out today. Most people (even me) agree that films and games are now crappier, but the number of good films a year hasn't really changed, just films becoming more mainstream has attracted all the money seekers who make mediocre shitty cash grabs so it floods the market and makes it seem like there's no good films by comparison
Same with games. I think newgrounds as a community is still going strong for websites that host flash animations and games. Let's face it, people still go there for games and interactive movies, that's something youtube never had and likely never will have

On that note, it's interesting to see how each (most) of their games share so much stylistically and how they compare against one another.
I still think that DMC 1 and DMC 3 are Kamiya and Itsuno's best work respectively for each of the studios they've worked with
