Yes what he did was wrong but he came out recently saying how he was molested since the age of 7 and his heavy drug and alcohol use used to be his way of coping, there was a point where he almost killed himself on a mixture of meth, crack and acid during 2006 and ended up substituting these addictions with pot. Nobody chooses existence. It's an obligation forced onto each of us.

For some, they are presented with the dilemma of seemingly eternal suffering or causing irreparable damage to the ones they love most and possibly just passing that burden forwards.

Yes, it's the penultimate of selfishness, but that's what depression is. You already hate yourself and the world around you, and your inability to change your mindset only redoubles those feelings.

If you can't empathize for someone battling that, you have either:
a) lived an extremely privileged life with minimal suffering.
b)Too young to have experienced the realities of the world and develop your empathy.
c) Lack humanity.
