I always enjoyed the first run of Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor, because it's grotesque. Has some mysterious plot-twisty elements. I later learned that the creator wanted it to be a kawaii giant robot thing and his supervisors told him that violence and gore was more profitable so he made it into a viscerally disgusting thing with imagery that still makes me nauseated.

I found cowboy Bebop to be one of the sure fire ways to drag people into enjoying anime.
Code Geass was pretty damn good(kinda hard to find few of the episodes of season 1-2.
Between those 2 animes I got entire college floor into anime.

To fit the non-anime shit request, i'll add Kino's Journey, it's more a collection of tales, each episode sounds lie a novella. It's a good watch if you lean more on story than art or action.
In a different style, Kaiji : Ultimate Survivor is really devoid of anime-shit too, don't let the title mislead you, it's all about gambling. I dropped it in the middle of the second season precisely because it got too gritty and real for my taste

One Punch Man is also really funny especially if you dabbled into anime like Dragon ball Z when you were younger.

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are both great stylized stories that are told through the anime medium rather than being "anime". Highly recommend.

Yomishibai-Japanese Ghost Stories is also similar in this regard, and it's really good if you like goosebumps-style creepy short stories.

Outlaw Star is a decent older anime that doesn't feel too Weeb-ish, and if you like sci-fi pirate stuff like Treasure Planet you'll like it. Maybe Gundam Wing or Big-O if you can get past giant robots?

Honestly there isn't a lot of anime outside of the above that I can think of that doesn't feel like anime bullshit. Your best bet is to find shorter minniseries, because the longer a series is the more Weeb it's gonna be no matter how good it may be.

Death note is good but it has many problems. The second arc is garbage, it's pointless if L dies only to introduce 2 characters who are clones of L and they win anyway. Also iot has about 4 different music pieces that keep repeating and repeating. It could have been better if they introduced the shinigami world more, added their politics more and the anime had a shit ending compared to the manga. Light BEGS for his life and BEGS for ryuk to kill everyone and he's just sat there laughing, lights death is pathetic and it's a glorious death for such a character, the anime went soft and gave him a better death than he deserved.

I hate weebs with every inch of my soul, but since i am trapped here forever, i finally decided to get into anime, just to be able to understand what are those faggots talking about. Tried like 30 popular titles so far, which were recommended by weaboos from a few different imageaboards. I dropped half of them, because most popular animes tend to be atrocious garbage with no story development at all. Don't listen to any of those retards advising you to watch those "masterpieces" for horny teenagers, where dumb lolis fool around all day, pretending like they are saving the universe.

Evangelion? Typical harem with an annoying emo as a main character. Religious bullshit all over the place and typical school problems.

Cowboy Bebop? Boring as hell, with nothing happening. Half the episodes are literally censored, and were designed with kids in mind. Might as well not even be called anime, because it's a parody of american 80's cartoons.

PsychoPass? Literally CSI: Japan. A waste of time for bored alcoholics who need to relax after sitting in the office all day.

Steins;Gate? Nothing but weaboo fanservice full of memes from Hiro's 2ch. The visual novel is even more atrocious. Evade at all cost.

Kill la Kill? Literally the worst anime i've seen in my life. It's so bad, i wonder if those who like it have serious mental disabilities. It's fanservice for horny teens + screenwriting and pace of a kodomo for those who are still in kindergarten and have almost no attention span, to keep them drawn to the TV while their mommy do the chores.

However the studio did not want it to end that way, because that would be showing a criminal getting away with mass murder. Any way you look at it light yagami is the antagonist of the show. So becausr they couldnt have the bad guy win. The studio had the writer make the extra story bit where the other detectives come in and do their thing and put his special brand of terrorism to a final end.
So. You can watch the show a couple different ways:
1. You take the end where L dies as being the actual ending of the show.
2. You take the studio ending as the whole show.
Kinda up to you, The viewer, to decide how you want to enjoy it.

Another - supposed to be a horror, while in reality it's comedy gold. Literally Final Destination: the anime. Worth a look just to laugh at how miserably it fails at being spooky.

Redline - an acid trip of a racing movie with incredible graphics and absolutely retarded weeb shit happening on screen all the time. Especially the ending which is one of the most cringy parodies of a Hollywood blockbuster. Worth a watch just to admire the fantastic animation, and a good laugh the pure cretinism of the plot.

Mononoke - another acid trip, but with a slow pace this time. A dude walks around and performs exorcisms on evil spirits who took over a certain place because of someone's sins, forcing them to confess to undo the damage. Extremely dumb and somewhat pretentious, but fantastic in terms of art direction and 3D mindfuck.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress - typical cliche shounen from the creators of Attack on Titan, but set in post apocalyptic world in a steampunk setting. Fanservice and completely retarded story like in the most animes, is somewhat compensated by fantastic graphics and soundtrack.

Parasyte the Maxim: definitely got a little bit of Death Note vibe from it, considering that it was made by the same studio. Forced romance, annoying female characters, moronic ending and a bunch of fillers. But the parasites were extremely well done, and at least there is some character development present. Worth a watch if you can suffer through the retarded female character arks, just to get to the juicy part: an attempt of the government to exterminate the aliens.

Personally I think that only a few mangas can be considered works of art, and I am a great fan of western comics as well. Authors like oesterheld , Pratt, Moebius or Will Eisner are immense and deserve endless praise. Having read most of Tezuka's works, I can say that he is on the same level, even though he's probably the only one that could produce that quality.
Having said that, we're talking about anime, whose quality is lower and OP asked for something that someone who's not used to anime might enjoy. Kaiji or Monster are good suggestions, they don't have all those shitty stereotypes that most anime have and actually provide a story that can interest a mature audience.

Pratt and his Corto Maltese ten years later left one of the greatest marks in the history of comics. Read those western authors and Tezuka. It is what none should miss in a lifetime. If you don't know where to start, New York by Eisner is not too long. As for Tezuka, Ayako, The Book of Human insects and The Three Adolfs are all of reasonable length, unlike Buddha which is really long and you shouldn't start with that.
Corto Maltese is quite long, so for Pratt you might want to start with The Scorpions of the desert (4 volumes ).
When you'll read the Eternaut, read about its context, when it was written and why.
If after you've read these you still haven't found anything worth of being called a masterpiece you are allowed to forsake comics for good, because things won't get better than those.
