I actually agree that there's no point in focusing on the sex of the doctor, I was just poking fun at people that can't deal with the idea of an actress playing a character than can essentially shapeshift. That goes double when Timelords are already established to be able to regenerate into a different gender, the old series mentioned it and suggested it was frowned upon in their culture but totally possible.

And Doctor Who has a lot of canon, and the idea of sex-swapping Time Lords is a fairly new addition. I don't think we can comment on whether this is pushing a political agenda or not; we've not seen anything other than a reveal. Perhaps the choice to make the doctor a woman came about because of the popularity of strong female characters we've seen recently, but that's not the same thing as 'pushing a political agenda'. If you have any evidence that this is politically motivated I'd be interested to see it, otherwise I can only assume it was a marketing/writing team decision rather than some sort of propaganda as you're suggesting.
