Religion is a simple tool made by people to explain death and not to be fearful of it, because some sort of afterlife where you can forever be happy.

Problem is it is all a lie, and a method to control the masses. Groups of misused Religions over the centuries to kill and harass.

And it all started with a caveman lighting fire from a stone and dry grass, they worshipped the fire as a God and thought it came from the Sun God. Because they didn't know the science behind it.
