What do you think happens after death anons?
Personally I believe that nothing happens after you die.
Its just an empty void of nothingness, kinda like how it was before you born.
>>

nah lots of shit happens after you die. you realize a bunch of shit that you had hidden from yourself while you are alive and all the shit you have your hands in that you have no knowledge of at all in life.

its all about your beliefs though as for what you actually see post-death. keep it positive and you'll be fine

I believe you'll be conciously "there", like a spirit or whatever, but you simply can't make use of any organs, you can't feel, you can't see, you can't hear - you can only think, you can only BE.
Therefor it makes zero difference how you die or where and how you are buried.

my my, all these pseudo realists in here

always the argument that your brain dies and with it obviously you have to cease to exist

and that's that, right?

then what is this moment to you? how is it different from a minute ago? from yesterday? how do you know you're always really still you?

you fuckwits believe that, don't you? then how can you even begin to claim that there could be an eternal nothingness, it doesn't make sense

someplace, sometime you will be yourselves again, simply because some consciousness will believe itself to be you and it won't know the difference just as you guys don't know

That might make sense if I didn't have the deepest feeling that I was alive before being born. Parents never pressed religion, but since I was a kid I've felt like I've always been here and that death is just the recycle. What do you think instincts are, truly?

I say we're all just remote beings of our soul which may be elsewhere. Kind of like the multiverse theory. The real us, our soul, being, is elsewhere and we are operated by that and that we can exist on different plains and platforms. There are A LOT of unknowns in the universe and there are quite a bit of folks that believe in afterlife one way or another. Or maybe they have out of body experiences, or have "seen ghosts". Typically, like stereotypes, there is validity in the stupidity of the masses.

>>Even if there were souls operating us, those souls wouldn't be us. They would be something else.
Exactly, maybe existence on earth is just a physical layer of a bigger scheme. Lot's of shit we don't know. Like the big bang. Solid theory but where did all the mass come from in the first place? Why is the universe so fucking big, or is it. "Tiny spec in the great cosmic arena" just doesn't make sense to me that it's just a dirt nap after it's all over.

In the way that a river is still a river even though the water is constantly changing. The sense of self is an illusion produced by the brain.

>>
>>738763371
a few minutes after death a wave of electrochemical signals overload every synapse in the brain. essentially, the brain formats itself, all previously existing neural pathways, all memories, all experiences, all thoughts are reset and wiped clean. the physical component of the mind ceases to exist, by every metric the "person" defined by that mind is erased and ceases to exist.
>>
>>738766896
how the fuck is it an illusion? for it to be an illusion there needs to be an observer, so of the observer is the illusion then who is the observer who is not the illusion?
>>
If you believe in or have had a real experience with ghosts, spirits, demons, or any other
Supernatural phenomenon, you should believe in life (or some kind of existence) after death because those things are a manifestation of that existence. Despite a lot of my family and friends having experienced and being convinced of something "more" after death, I have never had anything happen to me that would lead me to believe that death is the final end of my existence in any sense of the word, and I'm okay with that. I can't operate on faith alone and I think religion is s crutch for the weak.

>>
>>738768819
it's not

you're saying the self is an illusion, implying that it doesn't really exist

if it does not exist, how does it experience itself or anything for that matter?
>>
>>738768901
Your body is the thing that is experiencing reality.
>>
>>738769049
you still have not answered the question

you're just dancing around the issue, twisting words and definitions in favor of your argument without actually explaining anything

you call it body, i call it mind, it doesn't matter

there is an observer and it's real, doesn't matter what you call it
>>
>>738769275
>you're just dancing around the issue
I'm not dancing around anything, I just won't play the game that you want to play.

The body is a real, physical thing. The mind is an emergent property being generated by that body. It does not exist as its own entity and is entirely dependent on that body, changing as the body changes.
>>
>>738769581
and how does that make it any less real than the body?
>>
U go either to hell or heaven
>>
>>738769702
Couldn't agree more. Though the mind is indeed bound to the body, this is but a restriction which can be removed through technology (theoretically) Since our "thoughts" are just electrical signals, our mind is, as a matter of fact, physical and actually present, but in the form of electricity and interactions caused by it. And I disagree that solely the body experiences reality, like you said, the self is an observer.
>>
>>738769702
It does not exist as its own entity.
>>
>>738763497
A genuinely interesting theory, do you have any proof for this?
>>
>>738770086
so fucking what? the body could not exist without an ecosystem sustaining it, which could not exist without a planet/solar system which could not exist without a universe

there are dependencies all the way and you call all of it real but stop at the mind?
>>
>>738763371
Your question is born of confusion. You think that you are a discreet "you" - this brief conspiracy of billions of cells to simulate self awareness.
Your brain is a collection of billions of cells, each one more or less redundant and disposable and individually unimportant. Like an ant colony, the sum is greater than the whole, any one ant a meaningless cog but the greater whole able to execute complicated tasks, assess surroundings, build structures, gather resources, and communicate over long distances.
The you that matters is not an individual you, it is the meta-organism made up of billions of us. It is a creature of cities and nations, and it is a glorious and terrible beast.
You think that "you" is somehow a meaningful distinction, and that what happens to "you" might have some long term significance. You are mistaken. The collective will barely notice your passing, and nothing of value will be lost. But it will be fine.
>>
>>738770184
>the body could not exist without an ecosystem sustaining it
The body could not survive without an ecosystem to sustain it, but it exists as its own entity within that ecosystem. The mind does not.
>>
>>738769920
i bet the other guy would then say "but you need that techology, blah blah"

i agree though, the mind could probably be produced in other ways than through the human bodies we see it emerge in
>>
>>738770278
so now you're saying a human being is the exact same as an ant or a cell

it's not
>>
>>738770334
After all, the brain is just a wondrous masterpiece of natural engineering. What is a processor, but an incredible assembly of mechanical switches. Processors aren't even that different from brains, they simply only calculate information instead of also being able to do stuff like remembering, associating and stuff. But thats where software comes in. So the question, in the end, is really which one is developed first, a software with the ability to "think" or a brain-replica. At least thats my thoughts on this
>>
>>738763371
Dark Energy is consciousness. Our brains pick it up like a radio picks up radio signals, and we are each individual radios.

Our brain stores our memories and experiences stuff on a personal level, then those experiences filter through and shape the overall signal in a way best suited for evolution.

Dark Energy is one big being that experiences and learns through individual living organisms.

>>
Niggers please. The higher self is energy in a different dimension - the void. Think of death as disconnection between the body and the higher self which doesn't go anywhere, it stays in said dimension until it inhabits a new body.
>>
>>738769581
>not the same anon
Can you explain how that mind (or the physical entity as you call it) changing as the body changes?
>>
>>738763371
I kind of see death like a second birth.

I think death is probably only the beginning of the next chapter in the same way that being born was the beginning of the living chapter.

What that entails? who knows. I think humans are purposefully created in a fashion in which we will never be able to achieve the brain power to figure out the answer to life.

Materialistically you cease to exist since you as a living corporeal being end.
However:
Post-Mortem your spirit/consciousness/what-have-you persists and transcends from the material realm into a reality exterior to our known reality.

Essentially a 1-way transference of consciousness into a higher plane of existence divorced from the material and all that is material.

Of course, as a materialist all you have to go by is what you can see. Have fun not existing you poor human being.

OP here...
All of your opinions are relevant to me. Everyone is entilted to their own opinion and beliefs. I respect all of your thoughts and experiences of death. When I was in 7th grade I took a lot of pills and drank a shit ton to try and kill myself. My mom found me staring at a static, and then my eyes rolled in the back of my head. Also started foaming at the mouth.
Apparently, In the ambulance I died for two minutes. The only thing I remember is waking up in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm and family surrounding me. I had to get help for my suicide attempt, and spent two weeks in a mental hospital.
It sucked. There were no giant golden gates, no tunnel of light, nothing. In my own experience Im comfortable with saying and believing that when your physical body dies your spirit dies with it. Its not exactly "black" like. Your aware of eternal darkness. Its a very unaware unconsciousness of not being able to see, hear, smell, touch, feel, or anything. Its just nothing. Absolutely nothing.

1. Paradise. Rare. Only applies if you don't have sins. Not equal for everyone / depends on your sanctity level. Eternal happiness.

2. Purgatory. Only applies if you don't have mortal sins. Suffering. It will last quite a while - possibly until the end of the world - before you get promoted to the Paradise.

3. Hell. Eternal pain and sadness. No way to get out. People with mortal sins will pay forever their sins.

Note - in the last day, people in Paradise will get back their recomposed body, albeit in a "transfigured" version without suffering, illnesses, and so on.

Proposition 0: Assuming all religion is false:

Proposition 1:
After death, time does not exist any more. Eternity flies by in an instant, who can say what awaits at the end of eternity? After all possibilities have been brute forced by time itself, you will return to this very moment once again...
And you will be doomed to repeat the same shit all over again an infinite number of times.

This I am pretty certain of. You can tell me "muh heat-death, etc.", but we don't know what caused the big bang, and from what little I understand about quantum theory, it might very well happen again.

Proposition 2:
If we assume Proposition 1, then the question becomes: "what constituted oneself?" I don't believe in souls, because of Reductionism and because there is no function that a human can do that can't be accounted by neurons. So we need to ask: What is the difference between oneself and not oneself or someone else? And that's where I'm at right now. I can't find any plausible point where to make the cut. This leaves 4 options:
1. I need to search better, and I will reveal itself.
2. Distinction itself is an illusion of perspective, we are indeed everything.
3. Existence itself is an illusion so we are just "bio-robots" talking shit about existence, while there is nothing to us actually.
4. Some Assumption I have made was wrong.
>>
Oi, pretty much leaned towards Buddhism recently. Trying to find myself and look through many religions but those are my two cents to the topic: A complete state of nothingness can never be acheieved. Even if the whole universe would collapse or simply end, it wouldn't be 'nothing' for long. There'll always be something. And for those talking about "eternal void of nothingness", what are we here for? Some say we're just a random mistake to the universe but why? What if we would have never been here? No life on planet earth. What is the universe for then? Why would something like the universe exist if there is no reason for it? Would you build a house just to leave it empty?
I'm no hippiefag or anything but I start to see our human role as the protector of earth and life. We're here to protect animals and the environment. To keep the human race alive. We need to get more into science and stuff like that. We need to stop fighting us. We need to unite and be one thing. Not Italy, not America, not China, not France, not any other country but being part of the Earth. You were not born in your country but on planet Earth. The question what's happening after death is too much for us to understand. But alone the fact that we are able to talk about this topic and share our opinions should be proof enough that we are more than just a mistake. You can't build a skyscraper without a fundament. We need to change our view on life before we can think about a topic like this. So much to tell about this aaaaahhhhh

Your body dies but perhaps your consciousness does not.

Maybe your consciousness transfers into a newborn just coming into this world

Or maybe you live somebody else's life from their beginning, maybe not even on earth. There's a lot of unknown things out in the universe

I don't believe there is a paradise to live in after you die. Time is just a figment on the span we are in. and you can come back to the world but in a different timeline, period or century

There is one controller in the main sub conscious, the liver of life. Everyone else you see in this world is somebody you lived as before, perhaps i am you but i just haven't lived your life yet or i have but i dont have the memories from living that life.

Or the theory that life is just a simulation and when you die you wake up.
>>
>>738764234
the issue here is that "materialists" like my self don't believe anything, we don't have any reason to think something happens so, with the limited knowledge and resources we have mustered (science and shit) we have the hypothesis that there is nothing more after death because we have no way of proving there is a, for lack of a better word "soul"

I don't "believe" anything, show me proof that there is a soul and I'll "know" something happens after death, right now, all the evidence points to "no, nothing happens after death, you just cease to exist"

BUT, as I said, we still have a VOID of things we don't understand and know, as such we "can't" believe ANYTHING

we just say that with our current understanding of how the world works, that's what happens

There is no reason not to believe that your consciousness won't be preserved or evolve in some way, but exactly how is impossible to judge. You could look at patterns of evolution in natural states and make basic guesses, but at a certain point without when understanding for certain the nature of the universe, we cannot make certain what we cannot observe.
