Some schools offer a masters and a PhD, other just one or the other. You only need a bachelors to go for either but the PhD is harder to get into than masters. It's also a longer program

Working on my master's thesis in Structural Biology (X-Ray crystallography), going to publish alongside with it.

My question to you is: How in the fuck did you decide after a year of research for the masters you wanted to tack another 3+ onto that for a PhD? I continuously go back and forth between "I want this, nothing in the world can stop me from getting a doctorate" and "fuck man, 70 hour work weeks suck dick, I can't continue this indefinitely".

How did you cope with the stress, the lack of free time, and the existential struggles whenever you'd reach a holdup in your research? Did you ever regret having started your PhD in the process? Looking back, would you do it again?
