I'm kind of an obscure Youtuber, though I'm small-time and I just do it as a hobby. If I could do it as a career that would be neat but I don't really think it would be something I could count on. I'd like to have a more stable and secure career, which I can't at this point since I'm disabled, so I work on my own issues so I can have a job someday and when I'm not doing that I make Let's Plays, music, and neat art things. I want to get into game development too since some of the buddies I have who are Youtubers are also game developers, and it's been my dream since I was a kid to be one, but I don't know if I'm able to make a decent game that people will like. Just follow the same train of thought I've followed for years of making YouTube videos. I'm a YouTube animators and I've been doing it for about 5 years now, and the only thing I've kept on my mind while doing it is making sure I have a fun time with what I do.
I went from having half a million views on an animation to having under 500 views on an original song of mine. Yet I'm still making music because it is fun.
If you hate what you're doing and it's not popular in the slightest, then why bother?
If you hate what you're doing and people love your content, you'll feel like shit.
If you love what you're doing and nobody sees it, at least you love what you're doing.
If you love what you're doing and it gets huge, then that's just great.

It's all about having fun. Make your career something you love doing. I love doing animation, but it get's tedious. I stopped animating so often and started doing music. It's not as popular as my animation work and I've lost a ton of subscribers because of it, but I'm just glad I'm doing music, dude.

Ignore what >>738423228 said, he seems like an unpleasant person who just wants to rain on people's parades. Kind of like the bad voices in my head that got me to delete my channel three times in four years. The third time was after I became friends with some other Youtubers and now I've got people who can set me straight and encourage me that aren't on 4chan and aren't the good voices in my head. I've got schizoaffective disorder, among other things, so I get pretty depressed sometimes and the bad voices in my head like to take advantage of that. Sorry if that's a weird thing to say, I just like being honest about things since I figure that's the best policy. Thanks again for the advice and have a great night. He's really stepped away from playthroughs / lets plays. Hes said himself its lazy content, because thats all he used to ever do. and hed rather spend 2-3 days editing a good video than pumping out walkthroughs. His newer stuff is actually pretty funny and he never sticks to just 1 or 2 games. He often makes videos of completely random games. That's what I like most about him. Hes a pretty funny dude who spends more time creating his videos to make them look nice than most other youtubers.

As for gmod/SFM dying out, you'd be surprised to find that there are some good people left. The community isn't as rampant as it used to be, but there are some good content creators out there.

Op mentioned HoovyTube and BorMachine. They do constant collars with other smaller gmodders and while a lot of them are bad, some of them are good.

Game Done Quick has a good channel with some good speedruns of various game in a bunch of weird categories, including occasional fan games.

They are unfortunately retarded, at least in regards to getting people to run things. They ban runners if they get a little too edgy or make a joke that could be seen as super non PC, but then let in horrible asshole runners like a tranny that isn't fooling anyone, and a guy who fucked someone's wife not even a year before the event happened. Alongside telling people they can't run at the event with no reason, or banning people from entry last second, when they've already got time off work and bought their plane tickets.

The better part of the tranny situation is that they were running a game that was under a community wide non-run agreement; Because the game is so fresh everyone decided to a give it a year to develop quicker routes for better runs . On top of that, they put in their entry at the absolute last second, so no one could put in a run against them, guaranteeing them a spot for the game with no competition so they could get millions of people to see how super duper convincing they were as a woman.

The better part of that is the youtube video, in which the comment section is half full of tards screeching about sexism, and the other half people making great jokes about the tranny. Unsurprisingly the jokes and people speaking ill of the tranny have a lot more votes, as far as I can see. Though some got deleted, I assume due to a bunch of reports being sent out by the buttmad tranny.
