Are there any fast food workers here who think they deserve to make $15 an hour?

If so, please explain why you should be paid that much for a job that has almost skill requirements and is intended as an entry level position. And explain why you haven't developed your skills for a job that actually deserves that much pay.

i don't think i should make 15$ an hour, that's a little extreme.
but i definitely think i should be making 12$ an hour with benefits.

i work at Mcdonalds on the Las Vegas strip, right next to Caesar's Palace.
i work non-stop, as fast as i can move as soon as my shift starts to the end of my shift, i do not stop moving until i can take a break. we get one 40 minute break.
it's also 90 degrees.

after work i jog from Harrah's to Caesar's Palace to catch the bus.

if we made more, you wouldn't constantly need to restaff this place. but they run on a revolving door model. cheaper to rehire complete idiots than it is to keep your good workers.
people complain about the quality of Mcdonalds employees but they don't understand it's their business model, it's being done on purpose.

It's a matter of a living wage. Jews have debase US currency to the point where the minimum wage should be about $24 an hour.

I was a fast food worker for a long time and I think that it's a job which only really exists because our society is sick. Skeleton crew, shit pay, everyone hates each other or is too stupid to pick up on the fact that everyone hates each other... it's a cesspool. It's not a dignified position. Do the niggers picketing deserve $15? No. Should the job pay $15 and attract people who DESERVE that much? Yes. But then those niggers wouldn't have jobs at all (because basic economics) and we'd have the same problem.

This is why we either need basic income or sterilization programs or something else. This nonsense can't continue forever.

obvious bait is obvious but ill bite,as with some of us, we dont live off of daddy and mommy in my city alone a studio apartment which is literally a closet with a kitchen you would have to pay $1,200 plus utilities, food etc, if the current minimum wage is $7.50 so we will use these numbers for now(and i do realize some jobs pay more the current minimium for any entry job is $10 but we will get to that later) the average "full time" employee is supposed to get 40 hours a week, which most dont and average out to about 30-33(these numbers are from experience), but for the sake of arguement we will assume everyone gets 40 hours for full time and 20 hours for part time, assuming you just got out of school and are living on your own and plan to study some kind of academics or trade, working full time in a month at ($7.50 x 40h) x 4 = $1,200, now grabbing the numbers from earlier for a studio apartment at $1,200, food(ramen every day would land you easily 40-60 a month) electricity about 40 during winter times 60+ in the summer, gas during the winter is a bitch so about $100, and on top of that if youre studying, going out, needing new clothing, etc. the minimum wage does not cut it. and as prices keep ricing it will only get worse so its only fair to bring the minimum up. unless you want more people bothering you money on the streets or welfare babies etc.

When I first started working at Subway I was paid $6.15 an hour... That was some bullshit. But even I think that $15/hr is extreme for making a fucking sandwich. I can see 10~12/hr being reasonable.

Inflation is the reason that a bottle of water is $10 in DC.... they just bumped minimum wage to $12.50/hr and now the water will be $11 a bottle.

Fucking outrageous

not only this but if people don;'t have enough money to spend, theyll spend less on local and big businesses, causing unemployment rates to go up since there is no point in having 20 employees when the business isn't making enough money to support the employees and their big fat checks for the corporate greed. so all in all rising the minimium wage helps the economy, and helps create future jobs

My understanding of inflation is that it's driven from the amount of money in circulation, not the amount of money in the hands of consumers. More money to those at the bottom will come from corporate profit rather than government debt, so there's no new money in circulation and inflation doesn't have any huge change. Feel free to correct me here as I'm no econ-fag.

Min wage rises, people lose jobs, extra cost of payroll gets passed onto consumer and every part of the supply chain. Inflation rises, prices rise even more.

People demanding the min wage to rise are also begging to lose their job, or for those of you 'lucky' to keep your job, your workload doubles.

>>
>>738136591
But you can't just ramp up prices to protect profits, there's consumer law to stop that happening, at least where I live. Prices have to take inflation rates into account rather than just be set arbitrarily by the business. The only thing that causes that inflation to change is the value of your currency, which is to do with how much is in the economy.

>Government issues X amount
>Next time X amount is issued, you have 2X in the economy
>1X of taxes must be taken to keep the total at 1X and prevent inflation, as 2X would half the value of your currency.

So in that example, the extra money in the circulation is devaluing your currency. Giving more of that money to workers and consumers rather that big business isn't changing the amount in circulation and shouldn't devalue your currency.

Thank you for elaborating. Perhaps it's different in the US, but from my understanding our central bank regulated the amount business can adjust their prices to stop the cost of living being hiked to protect corporate profits. They have to balance it with inflation rather than profit, so if nothing is causing the currency to change value than living prices should remain steady to some degree. Again, not an econ fag.

There's no plan because no one knows how to stop stupid people from breeding.

you aren't suppose to be able to survive on minimum wage, you shouldn't be spending 1200 in rent a month. Share a house with roommates, live at home, or in the slums. Learn to cook, save what you can, and always set aside money for entertainment.
Raising the minimum wage will only drive economy up.
Mom and Pop Shop, hire a teenager during the summer, suddenly they go from having to pay the teenager 7.50 to 15 dollars, now they have to raise costs of everything. The big Corp now has lower costs, no one goes back, they close.
Economic Inflation only ensures that Big businesses always come out on top.

>government regulation
But you want more?
>>
>>738134808

The price of the good you are assembling is irrelevant. Your worth is dictated by supply and demand. If there are more people who can do the job, the wage declines.

So it doesn't matter that the parts they sold to Boeing cost $1 or $10 or $1,000,000,000. Your skillset was only worth $14/hour.

As more people's jobs get automated, the value of human work will decrease because those people will move into lesser-skilled (but not yet automated) jobs.

Competition will grow to a point wherein most people have no practical job use in society.

Counterpoint: why should it? Ostensibly a company should pay $x for something that costs $x, not $x + making sure you have your apartment's AC set at 74 all summer, have a couch, etc.

If they could pay someone else $x-$y to do what you do for $x, they should be able to.

There are a lot of people in this thread who don't understand how a pay increase would *actually* work.

You can't just raise min wage to $15 overnight, it would have to be slowly brought in, meaning you get a dollar or so increase each tax year (or something along those lines).

It would take years to actually raise the min wage to $15 in a safe way (i.e. protecting jobs) so all of you complaining about being poor, well, you'd remain poor for maybe another 5 years at least (and then you'd find it hard to get a job because no one is employing people at $15/hour to do menial tasks)

That's just not how it works. You think some field service technician making $20 per hour is going to walk up to his boss and say "hey, McDonald's is paying people $15 per hour. I'm supposed to be making 3x what they make cuz my job is 3x more technical"?

That boss is going to laugh in that guys fucking face. A higher minimum wage isn't going to affect him or anyone like him.

If you already make more than $15hr, you're not getting a goddamn raise unless you've earned it. Maybe bosses would have thought that way in the 60's. But they don't anymore.

And if you make less than $15hr. You'd get bumped up to the new minimum and the business would just cut corners elsewhere to make up the difference. No business owner in their right mind is just going to start jacking up prices, because they'd quickly lose their entire customer base.

People don't pay $4.25 for coffee because the barista makes $7.25hr. People pay $4.25 because in their minds that's how much a cup of coffee costs. You could pay your barista $90hr and people still won't want to pay more than $4.25 for a fucking cup of coffee because their opinion of the price of coffee has fucking nothing to do with the salary of the person making it.

So the business would buy cheaper napkins, cheaper cleaning materials, install automatic lights and turn off every single thing that doesn't need to draw power. ANYTHING to avoid raising prices more than a few cents.

None of this inflation shit matters. When you look at the application, the results have been what basic economics said it would be. When you artificially increase the cost of something, people buy less. In this case its your hours. What happens is employers have to cut hours, and employees. The people who were kept on the job end up picking up a lot more work but, in the case of Seattle, they ended up no better off than before the wage hike. A wage increase also forces employers to turn to automation. Big corperations will eventually do this none the less, but at a much slower rate. But small bussinesses, who employ around 50% of americans dont, want that. Also, ask your local small business if they've ever had to pay their employees with their credit because they cant make payroll as it is.

I think the article is clutching a little bit in it's analysis of this study. Indeed it seems a lot more ambiguous than 'minimum wage legislation is bad', it seems to say there's not a big link between it and employments rates. If anything it's a sign more studies are needed.

No they definitely do NOT deserve $15/hour. Any minimum wage job is basically menial labour that any generic person can perform. Nothing is specialized, they do not have to do management work/admin tasks so in turn the current minimum in Ontario is more than adequate.

People forget that minimum wage is exactly that - MINIMUM. As in, not meant to supply a lifestyle with luxuries (includingng; internet, cellphone, consoles, entertainment etc). It is meant to provide the basic income to continue existing - enough to provide BASIC food/shelter.

Fucking liberals wanting to pay people more for minimum do not understand basic economics. Higher min = upped cost of living for everyone, small businesses shutting down, layoffs, and everyone else making above minimum basically taking a pay cut once the cost of living goes up according to the increase in minimum wage.

It is only the snowflake hippies that want this shit to happen that think they have a fucking entitlement doing menial work.

I manage a business and its aggravating to think that some fuck can walk in and do $15/hour while I with MUCH more responsibility only am paid $5/hour more than that.

Trolls will troll & those who aren't fucking idiots will see the point.

I youst to work in Whataburger. 8.00/hr.
Pulled my self up to a lab tech. if that means shit.
Yeah it's meant to be entry level but that's not how it works out. We fired tons of people of people because other people are better and older. Makes since but now we've got a ton of people who don't have the money or don't have the time to go to school. Half are looking after kids. And, if you do work hard they cut you at 39 hours a week so they don't have to give my insurance or vacation.
And it's not the fault of the buisness. It is its job to make money.
At the same time these people need to be able to make a living, feed kids, and or get out of the shit hole.
So were stuck with the option of making legislation to alter how the business operates.
Or, using tax money to help them.
I'ts going to be one or the other.

$15 an hour is garbage wage. Honestly nobody should put up with that in 2017.

As of this year I make $115k, which is literally the threshold necessary for me to put up with the stress, nights, weekends necessary. And that puts me middle class.

Maybe I can help. I move from the US to Australia in 2009. My rent is 290 a week for two bedroom house. The average job pays 27 dollars an hour. Working at subway is 20 an hour. Healthcare is good quality and the cost of food is cheap bread is 75 cents a loaf milk 2 dollars for 2 litres. Sorry my fellow Americans, having a high minimum wage is cool beans for all. Also no crime that I can see anywhere. Fucking American wage slave job almost killed me

It's moving that way. The equipment in my shop has better capabilities then the crap we had 10 years ago.

It only works there because Australia has a smaller population than some US states.

here's a red-pill for you:

executive boards keep pay as low as possible because that inflates profits on paper over the short term, thus causing a corresponding rise in stock prices which they can then sell to make piles of cash. it's not great for the company or the economy, just a few people with stock options

it's like you retards don't even know about financial markets

Can confirm, also no gun crimes because no one is allowed to have them

I work at a pizza chain, started getting 15 an hour and now I get half the work I used to and only get about 2/3 of the money I used to. The work is much more fast paced and bust due to having less staff on too.

used to work in nandos in the uk and earned about $10 ph. shifts wernt just about cooking food. lots of heavy lifting (no problem), stock rotation in fridges, cleaning the cooking and kitchen areas hell even opening up the restaurant in the mornings. the grills they used in the one i worked at were 6ft long each and that shit gets HOT. should i have been given $15 ph. i think so. i earned it. but BUT. staff did get a free meal with every shift even if it was just 1 hour to cover someone. free sodas all shift. free shit like cakes and cheesecake after shift as well as a free drink of beer or wine on a night shift. it made it more worthwhile.

And people who think automation is only coming for the low-paying jobs are fooling themselves. A lot of lawyers, programmers, designers, quants, CPAs, project managers gonna be out on the street.

Drug dealer takes risk for higher reward bitch

Jail time is a possibility for making this money, some people see it as worth it, others do not.
Don't talk shit for it because you don't have the balls to take risks in life for bigger payouts.

The name of the game isn't the job you have its the money ticket you get that says you are qualified doesn't matter what half the time it just shows you are not a retard.

Well my $115k salary is in Florida, which is even cheaper than Michigan. I'm still middle class.

Still not qualified to make that statement. Are you an AI programmer? No? Then you're just blowing smoke out your ass cause you're just building the shells. Not the brains.

So trained medical professionals deserve, what? $30k a year? The equivalent of a kick in the balls for saving people's lives? They ought to be living comfortably. Way more than what $15hr would provide.

$15hr IS what fast food faggots should be making. BARELY enough to survive and buy a shitty looking but basically reliable car. Enough to barely get the essentials at a grocery store.

$15hr Is shit money! That's what you fucking pay people you HATE. You can't start a decent life off $15hr. It's barely a starting point.
