I'm an atheist who was raised Catholic, but I still like the idea that the meaning of life is to "glorify god." Not to worship a deity, but to live your life in such a way that your actions are positive enough to draw people to do the same, etc.

As far as Islam though, I don't like it. It's a horrible religion in its root form, as is Christianity to a lesser degree, but unlike Christianity the most significant reforms were even more fundamentalist.
Ahmadiya or whatever it's called is what I hope mainstream Islam moves toward.

Religion is actually a prime example of this. All jaded philosopher-edgelords like to pretend humanity hasn't changed at all, but most religions, including Islam, are so diluted from their original doctrines now that it's amazing anyone still believes them.

People and institutions in the western world can and often are ultra-shitty, but a lot of that behavior is cloaked now. Most Christians, for example, recognize on some level that certain tenets of their religion are fucked up and no longer acceptable. They conveniently ignore, remain willfully ignorant of, or come up with more and more imaginative reasons why certain fucked up things in the bible don't apply or aren't literal.
