I'm 26. I'm an operating engineer. I make 45/hr. Working an overnight atm just making sure nothing happens. ask me anything you fuck nuts.
>>
how does it feel to be inferior to me, a red seal machinist.
>>
>>737487909
Feels pretty good considering I like my job and I get to work on cool shit most of the time. Are you union?
>>
>>737488021
Naw, just a small shop situated at an airport in Bc. I make Hydraulic cylinders and aircraft parts but I make a bit less, 42.50.
>>
>>737488195
Oh sweet. Well I make 30 and change during the week but weekends are time and a half. Usually just bullshit jobs during the weekend so I get to sleep an hour or two on shift and I'm alone in the building besides from the armed security. Also union is where it's at.
>>
Bump bump. I'm bored. Come on you niggers.
>>
>>737487834
ever work with CNC milling machines? and if so, how many tiny scars do you have on the fingers of your dominant hand?

OP, You have a tight ass?
>>
>>737489413
No, I work with chillers, heat exchangers, going towers and supplemental pumps. I have to know a little of everything; hvac mostly, but also plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc.
>>
>>737487834
I'm 29, an electrician at an underground coal mine and earn $67/h. How does it feel to earn less than someone who didn't go to college?
>>
>>737487834
sharpie in PLC with timestamp or gtfo
>>
>>737489652
I didn't go to college. And after benefits, my pension, sick fund and my annuity I really and up making around 60 an hour. Also I don't have to work in an underground coal mine. So there's that.
>>
Endmills in ass or gtfo timestamp
>>
>>737489470
I would say it's pretty tight. I had chipotle today though so it took some abuse.

>>
OE here worked on Hebron oil platform in Newfoundland.
Made 400000$ in 2 years plus benes and 75000$ into pension.
Get fucked chickens
>>
>>737490158
Word up. There's so much money in our field it's crazy. So much overtime. My first year here I made 96k and that was only from march-december. The hours are rough but the work is rewarding and the money doesn't hurt either.
>>
>>737490158
Do you work with high pressure steam?
>>
>>737489650
neat! if anyone asks you to machine Ertalyte, tell them "fuck off." get that shit in your eyes and it'll blind you.

always wear safety glasses, kids!
>>
Rewarding. I run tower crane. I fucking sleep all day for my rewards. What waste of time. They should just let me stay home and credit my bank account. So boring. Money is not worth your time believe me. 14 days on for 14 hours a day. Slave consumer bro. OT ain't worth shit. Stories and glories with friends an family is where it's at. Hope you have a bug out plan to retire early and live.
>>
>>737490684
I always wear them. I've been hit in the face with solder while sweating pipes in a ceiling. Not a good feeling
>>
How'd you get into this line of work?
>>
>>737490806
Luckily my o.t is usually just a double shift and I keep my days off. I don't mind working the o.t now since I'm getting married in September and once that happens I won't take as much. I'm out at 55 and 25 hopefully.
>>
>>737490912
A friend's father is a rep. for my union. Worked 2 jobs for a year while obtaining various licenses. When I got into the union I was hired almost immediately
>>
Tower crane on an oil platform is QB position. You call the shots and tell the boss to fuck his hat.

I built high rise as well. Samefaggotry... run the show. Speed up the job or slow it to a crawl when your pissed off.

Highest crane I've run was 435ft free standing. K800 Kroll. Highest building with a climbing crane was 46 stories and my crane was 3 stories above it for clearance. The building sways at that height.
>>
>>737491393
I could never do that. Scared of heights like a bitch. Also I've seen cranes fall off buildings and it's scary as fuck. What sort of insurance do you need to be a crane operator?
>>
>>737487834
Are you circumcised?
>>
>>737487834
What do you think of OSHA?
>>
How'd I get into that?
Went to the union hall told them I wasn't afraid of heights.
It was 2007 before the economic bullshit. Lots going up not enough OE to fill the seats.

I hope you make 55 and 25 bro. Good on you I hope you win the lottery and can just do whatever you want. Fuck commerce. That's my motto
>>
>>737491658
I've been in the business for 5 years. Have yet to see or speak to anyone from OSHA. They exist for a good reason, though.
>>
>>737491723
Thanks brother. Luckily I got in early and I have enough time to build my pension/annuity up by that time. So here's to hoping.
>>
>>737491563
You bet I am.
>>
Zero personal insurance needed. I ran union and worked for companies. Insurance is their gig not mine. I just hoist and swing. Last company was keiwit. I quit the game though. 10 years is enough. I have an eye twitch from the stress and bullshit. Gonna go back to school to be a real engineer with papers. Sit at a desk and watch some other asshole swing in circles now.
>>
>>737487834
My dad works for local 825 what local do you work?
>>
Take care.
All the best

>>
Have you ever had anyone die at work?
>>
>>737492387
Have a good one brother.
>>
>>737492710
Not at my job. But one of the guys I work with got fired from his last job because he left early and his relief died on the way in. But people lose hands and fingers all the time. Don't know anyone personally though
>>
I'm a Software Engineer and make 30€/h before tax, after tax and mandatory insurances (health, care, unemployment benefits, Pension) they are less then 18€/h
>>
>>737490684
Is that you, Carol?
>>
>>737492854
I got very lucky with the benefits package that my union offers. It's one of the best in the city.

so , do you guys ever get like bored, being fuk nuts and all.

keep telling yourself the moneys worth it , as time goes by

day after day in the mines , doing nothing

the peak of your energy wasted , in some meaning less nothing job that serves only a few greedy bastards at the top who were not loved

oh yes , where do i sign my soul over to corpus corporations in exchange for a few shingles that will end up in the jew paws in the end anyways

lo how i envy you guys
>>
>>737493514
I work in a building. Of course I get bored. But that's part of having a job. What's it like living at home leeching off your parents? Lol...
>>
>>737487834
How do I get a job with a mech e bachelors
>>
>>737493753
the old , i have a job parent leech , thats the best you can do?

the universe provides, so long as your bowl is empty , by every 1st light , the bowl will be filled.

you can measure your wealth by how many smiles you create.

not by how much monopoly money you can accumulate for drugs and prostitutes.
>>
>>737493933
Build a resume and apply you tard..
>>
>>737494179
I can smell you from here lol.
>>
>>737494237
Already doing that part obviously. Had a mech contractor internship last summer as well. I've applied to 30-40 places so far this month and have heard mostly nothing back.
>>
>>737494463
It's rough. A lot of people are getting those degrees but employers want experience. I would see if there any supplemental licenses that you can get to buffer your resume.
>>
>>737494585
>need a job to get experience
>need experience to get a job

The worst is that most of these jobs want very specific types of experience i.e. "1-5 years electromechanical optics design" or something like that
Fuck me
>>
>>737494926
Honestly, find someone in the field. Network. Find out what they did to get hired and go that route. Networking is super important
>>
OP still active? Ive got a third grade stationary license, working on my first. Easy work, great pay and benefits.
>>
>>737496393
Sup. What sort of work do you do? I mostly deal with thermodynamics. But I do a little of everything
>>
>>737496517
Chillers/boilers, LPS, same shit. Hydronics and pneumatic control.
>>
>>737496930
Oh sweet. Are you commercial or residential? What kind of chillers do you operate? We have 3 1750 ton steam turbines.

>>737496930

Only 350 ton... Not too big
>>
>>737497078
Easier to maintain lol. We have con-ed steam so no boilers here. But I am certified to work on them and have. Not a fan
>>
>>737497059

Smaller plant for a commercial building, 17 storey. 5 vertical firetube, about 10 mbtuh, 15 psi is what we run at during heating season. Wet lay up during summer, so still need 24/7 operator because of sq foot of surface and local code
>>
>>737497225
Yea no shit, I do resi and commercial HVAC work on the side, resi sales of new AC's and commercial service are Where the money is. Trying to bank cash to get my biz off the ground and hire some guys
>>
>>737497233
Gotcha. 30 stories here. We have critical IT rooms that are cooled via liebert units. Also 15 psi steam and 24/7 operators
>>
>>737497333
I was thinking of doing side work as well. Good to know it's lucrative
>>
>>737497384
For sure. Not much to it in the residential side, I deal American Standard. Trane wants too much for their advert. Dues, and AMS is oem trane so why not. Dealt carrier, lennox. Both POS service and equipment. Lennox equip isn't too bad. Service sucks, 2-4 hours on a tech help Phone call.
>>
>>737497551
I deal with trane daily. They're usually assholes. Fresh meadows is the same
>>
30+ /hour is good $$ for our line of work based on exp. Plus benefits of course. I'm around 27/hr then 2.5 time on overtime. They treat us good, non union. Paycheck is nice but taxes suck
>>
>>737487834
I don't even know what half of the shit in this thread is but I love it for some reason, it's just honest conversations.
>>
Id love to go full-time HVAC/R, only problem is we have a few big name companies in town and they control the work, who gets it, even sit on the board of licensing for the city. Tough to make it as a small guy these days
>>
>>737497842
Lol not everyone on /b is ignorant and retarded, nice to see another anon in the same line of work, good to get a feel for where they come from. I'm in Midwest USA btw
>>
>>737492185
We can have pics?
>>
>>737498061
No

>>
>>737489652
How does it feel to work in a coal mine lol
context buddy, it matters
>>
>>737498174
?
>>
>>737489650
You're a stationary engineer, not an operator.

So yeah, quit claiming my trade
>>
>>737498018
Same here, I'm going off to college for a completely unrelated degree but there was a good amount of kids from my school going straight to the union, so it's really cool to see what some of them may be doing later in life.
>>
>>737498018
By "same here" I meant that I'm also from the midwest (Northwest Chicago suburbs) just to clarify lol.
>>
>>737498270
IUOE. I operate chillers. Operating engineer is the job title. It's not a dick measuring contest
>>
>>737494179
