I was in Helmand form Oct 2010 to Oct 2011. I went around the whole AO helping peeps with comm stuff. Shiiit I was pretty messed up, saw some good guys get split in half by IEDs. But at the same time yeah we lost alot and it almost feels pointless what we did, but I don't dwell on the past anymore, because if I'm not happy then our buds died for nothing. Feeling like shit won't bring them back, just be glad you came back with memories of them. Rah

2014 was in the meat grinder too. 31B tasked with clearing poppy fields because Al Qaeda and the Talies where starting to sell it to ISIS and started moving it over to Syria.

Shit was fucking terrible, hired local laborers. Laborers came back late at night and started stealing the plants and selling them back to the insurgents.

After a few weeks the engineers came in and demoed 4 patches where they grew it, set the area on fire and moved on to providing route clearance and security for the EOD guys.

Was lucky didn't loose anyone in our company during the deployment. Had a few close calls.

How I see it in my opinion, is that the marine corps don't need any of us. The corps will be there, but we needed it for whatever reason. I learned that the world is full of shit, but at the same time I learned how to grow up fast, and now passed through all the nightmares and time taken away I'm much stronger. I literally have no fears from anyone, I have that drive that if I want something I can pursuit it until I die. The dreams don't ever leave man but it gets easier with time. Don't let your mind be fixed that your only a marine, you have that drive experience now, be great at what you want now
