If it were me, I would start by unscrewing the power receptacles and checking for line powered bugs.

I would also check the cable receptacles, air vents, ceiling fans, smoke detectors, door bell, alarm system, the fireplace, and the drain.

Some of the newer bugs are also designed to look like USB cables, phone chargers, and the like.

If you want a bug sniffer please keep in mind the bug may not constantly transmit if at all.

Also you buy a cheap bug sniffer it may not be able to pick up the frequency of the bug.

The idea of an EMP with enough power to blow a bug designed to transmit via front end overload by stringing up capacitors is simply laughable.

Such an attack would be more effective on the receiving device, but still not feasible.

Your best bet is visual inspection. Look for pictures of what you should look for on google.
