Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my computer.

I don't think running a really big magnet or filling a bucket full of bleach and ammonia in a closed space will fix it. I also can't delete system 32 because the monitors aren't turning on.

I just upgraded my PC completely and the monitors won't get any signal when I turn on the computer.
I upgraded to a GTX 1070 from a GTX 970 and the monitors are both running from DVI and they are acer about 3-5 years old max.

GEE I WONDER IF THERES A PROBLEM WITH THE GRAPHICS CARD

Do some basic troubleshooting before you come here. Sage for stupidity.

remember to plug it in to the graphics card and not the mobo

that's probably why my monitors won't turn on
my mistake, have a nice day
>>
>>736580088
see, your old card works properly, so what you do is take your old card and put it back in, change nothing else

so if your monitors work again, your issue is your card, if they still don't work you have another problem

easiest way to test if graphics is bad would take that bitch out and run off onboard, if you have it.
>>
>>736580474
im not very good with the terminology, i'm assuming onboard is off of the motherboard and I already tried that and it still was receiving no signal.

>>
>>736580593
No, take it completely out and then try off the onboard. if its still not working check to see if you put your 4pin power on your mobo.
>>
>>736580662
Also, you sure you hooked front panel connections correctly?
>>
>>736579330
Is that a 8pin power connector or one of those 6+2 connectors? I have the same vidcard as you and ran into the same problem. Turns out the 2 pins weren't pushed down all the way. Or just check to see if the connector is pushed all the way down. Won't post otherwise.

if it's in regards to on the card, it has 6 + 2

>>736580988
ya mang like i said take graphics card out run it off onboard, if that doesnt work check to make sure your mobo cpu power is plugged in (usually 4 or 8 pin on top left) get the manual for your motherboard if that shit still isnt working check to make sure your front panel connectors are plugged correctly. if youre saying all that shit checks out its possible your friend fucked up wiring it and when you go to power pc its not even gonna boot

>>
>>736580988
>>736581130
The fucking secondary power connector on the gtx 1070. (sleeved connector with the yellow wires going into the top of your vidcard)

Some psus have the connector as 2 pieces (6pin+2pin) because the older midrange geforce cards have 6pin power connector.
>>
>>736581433
it is a 6+2 and is pushed all the way down
>>
>>736581433
As in make sure the clip snaps on it.
>>
>>736581550
would it receive power if it wasn't snapped in?
it lights up when i power on and everything else turns on and no red error lights as far as i can see
>>
Try clearing your bios... Should be a set of jumpers on your motherboard that you can short to reset your bios and try a fresh boot after that. I had to do it when I went from a 1080GTX to a 1080ti
>>
>>736581693
did you even read >>736581295 ??
>>
>>736581750
yes i did i was getting around to that.
when i go to power the pc it turns on so i don't think he fucked it.
>>
>>736581538
Try reseating that connector (take it off and reconnecting it). Could be that it doesn't have good contact. Is the EVGA logo lighting up?

Or you can try connecting your monitor with an HDMI or displayport cable. Could be a bad DVI port, who knows...
>>
I had this problem too, take out the mobo and cpu and rebuild it like you just got the oarts, make sure to use the gold mobo mounting screws.
If not replace your mobo.

>how the fuck do i troubleshoot with no monitors
First thing plug the monitor in and make sure it's set to receive proper input using the monitor menu
Still broken?
If the monitor has alternate input options(SVGA/w/e), you can try changing cables first.
Still broken?
Unplug the graphics card.
Plug the monitor directly into the MB.
Install the drivers for THAT graphics card to use THAT monitor.
Reconnect.
Still broken?
Try the graphics board forums, search for your type of monitor.
>>
>>736581847
it lights up
>>
>>736580351
I'm on 4chan right now with a phone. People forget a lot
>>
On boot, can you get any lights from the keyboard (caps/numlock)? If so, mobo and rest of rig are okay. If no caps/numlock lights, could be a power issue or board issue.
>>
>>736582122
no lights on the keyboard
>>
>>736582122
That could also be true... Forgot to ask, what is the wattage of your psu?
>>
sounds like u fried it with static electricity
>>
>>736582213
evga supernova 750W semimodular
>>
>>736582243
fried what
>>
>>736582122
Well, something is likely wrong with the mobo. Try a bios reset.

also
>monitors are both running from DVI

I thought the GTX 1070s only have 1 DVI , 1 HDMI and 2 displayports
>>
>>736582582
If all else fails, remove vidcard, plug your monitors into your mobo dvi port and see if it posts. If not, then yeah, something definitely fried on the mobo Also check if your psu fan is spinning.
>>
Did ya update your bios?
>>
>>736582582
they both ran dvi on the 970
im only running one on the 1070 because youre right it only has one port but i've tried it with both monitors
>>
>>736582308

motherboard potentially
>>
>>736579330
Have you tried over clocking your hard drives?
>>
>>736579330
op check to see if it outputs from your mobo
and if you have a mudular psu check that you are using the right cabels (;
>>
>>736582816
So yeah, see>>736582754

If all else fails, your mobo probably got fried. Rule of diy build troubleshooting is to put it to take everything out until only the bare minimum needed to post (psu, cpu, ram). Could also take out one of your ram sticks to let it start in single channel and swap it around to see if this is what's causing it to not post. Process of elimination.
>>
Op, for someone who is asking g for help, you sure are a lippy little cunt, ya know that?

Did you properly remove all the old drivers before you put in the new card? Did you download the drivers for the new card before you removed the old one?
>>
Did you turn it on between having the two cards installed?
BIOS might have flipped the setting to use on board and ignore dedicated.
Plug monitor to onboard, with and without 1070 installed.
See if it runs.
If you get picture, set BIOS to dedicated, save and exit, power down and then install 1070.
>>
>>736583365
how would it get fried if everything is turning on and there are no error lights on the motherboard
i feel like if it was fried it wouldn't turn on at all
>>
>>736583374
someone told me to go to g and then i posted in there then immediately got saged because you're not supposed to ask g for help
>>
>>736583404
did that, it doesn't run
>>
>>736579330
no video sounds like either a graphics card problem (most likely)

a ram problem (somewhat likely)

or a cpu problem dealing with bent pins or messed up cpu (least likely)
>>
>>736579330
make sure your graphics card is slotted in correctly. Make sure your PCIe power is connected to it. Make sure your plugs are secured correctly. Make sure you monitor's input is selected in the monitor menu.
>>
>>736580088

OP Here
Thank you to everyone who gave real suggestions and took time out of your day/night to help me.
I really appreciate it but I'm going to take it to geek squad tomorrow and have it be their problem so it eliminates the risk of me fucking it.
Only got a month and a half left to coast off my parents money so might as well take advantage of it.

Once again thank you to those who helped
And the rest of you can eat a dick
>>
>>736584904
Did you try using onboard graphics?
>>
1: make sure the power supply can/is sending enough power to card

2:install your old card and disable the onboard video in the bios settings. Then try reinstalling the new card

3: search google for any compatibility issues with that card and your motherboard

4: if nothing gets it to work then return/rma the card for another. Its not unheard of receiving a bad video card.

>wouldn't it work onboard no matter what if there was nothing wrong with the motherboard?
Nope
>>
>>736579330
That calculator isn't powerful enough to run a gtx1070, also you need to remove the button cell from the calculator to reset the cmos.. and clear the old calculator drivers and reseat the calculator.
>>
>>736579330
doesn't that card need 2 power plugs?
>>
put off the power off. take the battery form mobo out for 10 min. put it back. if nothing happens try changing the ram place(remember to put 1to3 2to4 positions)
>>
>>736579330
Are the gpu cards plugged in to the power supply?
>>
>>736580088
I think it's a power issue too. Can you describe it more? Are the GPUs running?
