Look there is something you're not understanding about the real world. The MOST advanced technology will always be military, because if it's moved to the private sector it will become public, which means any enemy will know what our tech looks like, which means they can easily deploy countermeasures. All top end research much remain military and secret so it can move to the private sector when it is no longer strategically important to keep it secret.
