Netflix and other streaming services take an estimate $300 per year and that's not counting your cable TV service. Fuck okay here's what happens. When you download/seed you show up in the tracker list. There's a bunch of people (security companies) that make a fortune off snitching. They use various methods, mostly programs to read the tracker lists and then document them. Those companies sell these lists of hundreds of thousands of IPs to the service provider that their subnet is under. Comcast is the major buyer of these, and is the most active about sending out these letters as both a deterrent to piracy, but more importantly to free up bandwidth. Use a VPN so that you don't show up as yourself in the list, especially if you use Comcast. Don't listen to these computer illiterate little shits that say it's never gonna happen, every day we are straying further and further from internet freedoms.
