It doesn't needs to melt it just needs to lose its temper which jet fuel is plenty hot enough to do. The heat changes the crystalline structure inside the steel making it soft and malleable. In this condition it can't support the weight of the structure and the collapse starts. Once it starts to go even the unweakened steel on the lower floors isn't strong enough to absorb the impact force if the above floors slamming into it and they give way, resulting in and accelerating cascading failure that brings down the entire building. What looked like explosions blowing out the sides during the collapse were caused by the pressure wave of the floors pancaking together as they collapsed. The physics aren't super complicated.
