I built an HTPC in 2013 and it was the greatest "evolution" or next gen experience ever. It was more significant than going from PS2 to PS3.

By the end of the last console generation, most people just used their PS3 or Xbox 360 to watch Netflix or something. With an HTPC, you don't have to deal with the shitty Xbox or PS3 version of Netflix, or Hulu, or whatever you wanna watch, you can just go to the fully featured website. Plus, you can pirate shit way easier on PC, movies and games. I have like 750 movies, all pirated, and I use Plex to watch it.

Consoles are just shitty PCs with a closed off environment where you can do or customize very little. With my HTPC, porn, movies, and games, are just seconds away on my big screen in the living room. I'll be honest, PC games don't look THAT much better on PC, but they do run better, and by that I mean they run in 60fps, which, going from a 360 to a PC, was a huge difference. The XBone and the PS4 are just incrementally better PS3's and 360's and the exclusive games don't look that interesting.

I built my HTPC for $800, it can't play 4K or VR, but I bought the parts back in 2013. I can swap out the graphics card for a new one around $200 and I'd be 4K VR ready. Plus, if you do go the HTPC route, get a Logitech K830. It's $99, but the best living room keyboard you can buy. It's got long reach and illuminated keys for late night fumbling. You don't need to spend $1500 to build a sweet living room setup.

Lots of us don't want to invest the time nor money a great gaming PC requires. I'm much happier throwing $500 at a console than $1500 at a desktop. It's obvious PCs will be better but it's a fucking tax to work with all of that shit. Plus with that much power in a PC you have to upgrade shit constantly if you want the absolute best. And if you don't have the patience to upgrade every 4 or so years like consoles then it becomes a money pit. Basically, if you're a beta with no aspirations to get pussy or pay adult bills than PC is your go-to. If you're a richfag with an kardashians assload of time, PC it is. If you are happy with excellent but not too notch quality, affordability, exclusive titles, and no desire to be a neckbeard, console it is.

The possibilities are endless with PC's and with most console games coming out on PC, there's little reason to own a console anymore.

The OS is intuitive and makes sense, you can multi task in a way that isn't detrimental to both tasks, and have access to a lot more indie development ranging from games, mods, apps, themes, and best of all if you want to have better graphics in a couple years you just get a new GPU, instead of playing with 4 year old graphics waiting to pay what would equate to the roughly the 3rd best GPU on the planet for a whole system that does 1% of the tasks half as well. Yeah, but Microsoft doesn't manufacture the PC components. You can build a new PC using components you bought from Amazon from different manufacturers. You can choose Intel or AMD, you can choose NVidia or AMD. You have a choice with PC. If you're a super nerd you can install Linux, or if you're lame, you can build a Hackintosh. Otherwise, you'll probably opt for Windows, which is $100, or free if you pirate. After that, you can buy your games from where ever you want. You don't have to, or should you, buy your games from Microsoft. So, it's not really fair to compare the Xbox, which has advertisements baked right into the home screen, and a PC, which you can customize, and you don't buy it from Microsoft.

Considering you don't have to worry about your console specs to run any game released on the platform or getting viruses and shit from pirating, console is pretty enticing to multiple audiences. PC caters to gamers who think their FPS has to be 100 or higher or they won't get the respect they think they deserve.
