I'm American, I've got some thicc chub. I really only have one rule concerning my weight. The day when I become physically hampered from my own weight is when I draw the line. I've got some juice but I can still do everything I want to. Like playing with my dog,running, and biking. no - pretty much everything about our life ( and western culture ) says being thin is the only way to be. If you are fat, you are a fucking useless fat slob piece of shit.

I'm not sure why so many people are obese. I think it has a lot to do with our diet, and especially a poor person's diet. Basically all processed food. On top of that, and this is my personal experience, is that

1) very sedentary lives ( tv / computer / job )

2) food addiction / sugar / fat - when I have some cookies, I literally cannot stop until I've finished the box. I used to be a heroin addict - so I have a pretty good idea of how addiction works, and it feels very similar in terms of the compulsion. You say you won't do it, promise yourself you won't do it, but there you are doing it again. I think this is both an emotional addiction as well as a physical one. It is a stress coping mechanism, and my body craves , like deeply craves it. I think the emotional part comes from a culture that judges you almost exclusively on looks / power / money - none of these are really fulfilling, and are also unattainable for most people.

3) lack of tools ( beyond "quit eating fatt" and "eat less exercise more"

4) lots of mind programming to eat snacks. constant barrage of advertising since you are a little kid. think of Coke - amazing emotional ads. when its hot, I want a coke. When its snowing, I want a coke. When I hear a bottle crack open.. I think of coke.

5) medication. antidepressants and other drugs really fuck up your appetite. I put on 40 lbs the year I went on antidepressants.

But to reiterate - it is NOT ok to be fat here. but people are anyway.
